This is a wonderful place to visit and a must-stop! The rail exhibit is cool to see atop the river. Before you get there though, stop near the campground where the box car exhibits are and you can walk around them and get up close and read about the history on the signs. Go all the way to Morrow Point Dam and follow the trail across the foot bridge. What a beautiful sight! Take the trail all the way down and you run into this beautiful waterfall. Great place to make a day trip!

An amazing blast from the past! Its really cool to see what this area used to be like! The train is right at the beginning on the way down to the cimarron river and the dam. The dam is really cool to see up close plus a nice walking path down the river!

Kind of neat to see, though it was a bummer that it's not more accessible. Not worth a trip on its own, but the Morrow Point Dam and Mesa Creek Trail a little farther down the road make it a worthwhile stop on the way.

This is a great stop while driving to/from the Black Canyon NP. Like others have mentioned the breeze was very refreshing amidst the July heat and the red hills are very pleasant to look at during the turns on the drive.

It was an awesome roadside attraction! To come around the corner and see that train in the middle of nowhere. It includes a decommissioned, historic narrow gauge steam engine, a box car, and a caboose. It’s all displayed out on what looks to be it’s original track and trestle. You cannot touch it, only see it from a short distance. They are in phenomenal shape.

The canyon is gorgeous and dramatic and the drive in is short but beautiful. There is a visitor center, which I’m assuming used to be a train stop, but it was closed when we were there. A quarter mile further is the Morrow Point Lake Dam, which has a quiet and scenic picnic area, educational information about the dam and power station, and public restrooms.

The Gunnison and Cimarron Rivers meet here and the water is quite fishable as well. Very nice spot.

The train exhibit is awesome. However, the dam is just astounding. It's loud from the river run off up top, fresh cool air makes a 90° day feel like a nice 65°. The lookout picnic area is large with loads of parking. Once you head down the trail (it's a bit steep, so go slow or use a walking stick), it becomes almost silent. Once you reach the bottom of the trail, you'll find yourself on a bridge that gives a perfect view of the dam, and the river meeting. We went further down the trail for roughly 30 mins. The trail wraps around the river and is mostly paved with natural stone, some large steps and a few areas that get your shoes dirty, but all of it was so worth fhe 45 minute stop.

We had a pic nik here today. What a nice place. A great place for camping fishing and hiking. A train station with restored antique trains. Public restrooms and showers and the RV camping is very convenient with easy access in and out. Hiking, Biking but fills up pretty quick during hunting season. Spring and summer are the best times. A safe area as well.
