Apache Mike's got the right stuff.

If you book your stay here, know that you're in for a full experience of Alaskan hospitality and then some.
Mike, the host, built everything by himself, and loves to share with guests the lifestyle of this remote rural town. He took us to his fish wheel, filleted the sockeye salmon with us, showed us how he stocks up on preserves, the whole process basically. He then cooked a delicious dinner for us back at his place, including some of the salmon we filleted earlier, musk ox burgers, corn on the cob…He's an amazing cook and has enough stories to fill a biopic.

The cabins themselves are tiny but comfortable and surrounded by nature. You can tell they were built with love. Electricity but no plumbing, with the cosiest outhouse you'll ever do your business in.

I'll be recommending this to all my friends and relatives.

This was my favorite place to stay when I visited Alaska. I was expecting something rustic and basic, but instead I was surprised with the fanciest cabin I’ve ever seen. The decor is thoughtful and lovely, and I enjoyed listening to Native American flute music recordings on the CD player in the cabin as I sipped lavender tea and settled down for the night. Comfortable bed complete with a mosquito net, and a convenient wash basin in the cabin. The outhouse is also fancy, as far as outhouses go. I wish that I had been able to stay for a longer period of time — this would be a perfect secluded writer’s retreat space. Highly recommended!

I’ve been going to Chitina Guest Cabins for years, and stayed a couple of nights in the bunkhouse last month. Always fresh coffee to brew, and the sleeping arrangements are more comfortable than my bed at home. You can make the sleeping area 100% dark when the sun is shining 24 hours a day. Ask Mike to make some of his, “World Famous Smoked Salmon Dip.” You’ll thank me later. Thanks again for everything Mike, see you next year!

I rented the bunk house. I thought this was a nice room and a more affordable option than a hotel in McCarthy. More importantly I thought the location at Chitina was great to breakup my drive between Anchorage and McCarthy. Chitina had two nice restaurants for dinner as well. The owner of the cabins was very friendly as well.

I stayed in the bunkhouse since it was just a quick overnight trip on our way to McCarthy. Mike was extremely nice and made us feel at home. The bunkhouse had no running water buy Mike had plenty of containers filled up for us to use. The bunkhouse had a quartz heater that just barely kept it on the chilly side on our cold July night. The outhouse is an experience in this day in time. Watch our for the moose!

Had an amazing experience. Can only recommend. We stayed one night but this is the kind of experience you remember. The cabin,100% built by the owner, is super cosy, and decorated with taste. But the best is yet to come. We had the chance to share the dinner. Even went to the fish wheel to catch the salmon. Best meal in Alaska!

I loved the rustic aspects of the whole thing. Michael and Kris are awesome, and seeing the fish wheels and eating fresh salmon was awesome. Unexpected treat of canned moose as a gift from the locals, which tastes like prime chuck roast if there is such a thing. The whole trip is a delight. Went around 2008 and Michael was still working not the other cabins, would love to go back and see what he has done with the place. Alaska rocks!
