The Tower Hotel across from the Clay Center is a winner: super-helpful front desk, location, amenities — grab bar in the shower, thank you!, comfy beds, extra-yummy breakfast, easy access and parking. Attractive decor and furnishings. Great stay —

Terrible place! Do NOT spend your money on this hotel. I travel all over the world and this is the first hotel that has ever not allowed me to check in from a 3rd party booking without paying an additional fee. The Clerk canceled my reservation as I was checking in and left me stranded without a room for a convention the following day. DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY YOUR MONEY!!!

BE AWARE. HIDDEN CHARGE. This hotel instead of charging 13% state and city tax combined, they are charging an extra 1% daily The manager wanted me to believe that the extra charge was a city tax that the guest is required to pay to the city, but I did not buy it. What the manager failed to say was that it is a city tax that the hotel as a business has to pay to the city. In other words, the hotel is getting the money from guests to pay their own city tax debt. Unacceptable. Unethical, especially because they lied to me. They are camouflaging the money they are charging guests to pay their own city tax responsibility by writing on the receipt the following: "Business & Occupational City Tax."||They charge Sales Tax (6%), City Lodging (6%) Municipal (1%) and Business & Occupational City Tax (1%) being this last one the one they are getting from guests to pay their own tax responsibility. Also, this one is the one that was not on my reservation when I made it through Best Western website directly. I requested the charge to be dropped and honor the Best Western reservation price, but they said they couldn't do it.||In addition, the hall smells really bad. The elevator hold just 4 people at a time. Also, they taped two of the buttons of the elevator panel with blue duct tape and gray duct tape making it looks trashy. The other elevator was out of order. The room is small. The parking lot is very dark and it is a little bit apart from the hotel. It looks like it is a parking lot for another business. I was worried about it, but I was told it was the hotel parking. Even by hearing that, I was concerned about being towed. Also, if you need a refrigerator with a freezer, I need to say that there is no freezer and the fridge is smaller than usual. The hot water was just barely warm. They have a very limited breakfast selections. ||I did not get what I paid for.

Location is great. Right near the old town and a bunch of resturants and bars. A couple of blocks to the river. There is a nice park near there by the stadium as well.

I was sent a room in which had visible bugs. I went back down to the front desk and showed the worker one of the bugs and she says oh its just a spider!! I made her aware that I do not sleep where there is bugs. She then told me that she was not going to switch me rooms!! She called her so call Manager Traci Kinney in which she was pretty much silect... I then got my money back. No I see why yals banner was taken from Bestwestern! Lol What happened to your Hilton Standards Miss.Kinney. Unfortuntly no appoligies needed after your GM Miss.Kinney tells her ghetto staff to handle all issues at their decrection. That is probaly why she could not make it at the Hampton Inn Southridge👌

The hotel is apparently undergoing renovations. We checked in very quickly and went to the room. It was very clear, except for what appeared to be coffee stain in the carpet in front of the dresser that holds the the refrigerator, drawers and on which the flat screen TV sits. We were provided upon check-in with a list of close by restaurants and bars, along with a listing of TV channel. Only a handful were HD and the remainder were standard definition. The bed was very comfortable and HVAC quiet. The breakfast was standard fare and nothing to excite, They served real|scrambled eggs and not powdered eggs. The breakfast was acceptable but nothing to rave about. It was easy finding the hotel right off the interstate in downtown with ample free parking. We would definitely stay there again.

Let me start off with the high points - the price of the hotel is unbeatable. The property is also right off I-64/I-77 and in close proximity to the Capitol building and Capitol market as well as downtown Charleston.

I was also very impressed with the rooms themselves - they were very bright and modernized, and the beds were extremely comfortable. I stayed in a room with two queen beds and had a friend who stayed in a room with one king bed - both rooms were very spacious and comfortably accommodated multiple people. The bathrooms were also perfect - the shower had several massage modes and worked great.

Here is the not so great part - only ONE out of three elevators worked, and it was not big at all. That is one issue that put a damper on an otherwise decent stay. I would certainly consider this property again as long as the elevator situation gets fixed.

Easy off the expressway. This is an older hotel. The room was clean. Lobby & breakfast area welcoming. Managed to be stuck in the elevator, twice. They are working on them. The hall on the sixth floor smelled but looked clean. Breakfast really was awful. Dried up eggs & sausage. Couldn't get enough batter for waffles. Replenishment wasn't happening.
If you're a tired traveler, location is good. Close to local restaurants.
