Glamping at its finest. Beautiful spot with comfortable furnishings in wall tent with very comfortable bed and lots of warm blankets. Optional rental of Buddy heater to take the chill off before bed, much appreciated on the chilly nights of late August. Along with the hot water bottles to warm the feet. Warm showers, minimal cooking facilities, campfire ring and bear safe food storage. Sleep to the distant sound of the river flowing. Denise is a delightful host. Off grid but solar powered power banks provide charging for phones and electronics. Bring headlamps if you go late August as it starts getting dark earlier and for nighttime trips to the outhouse.

Wow! My friend and I just returned from a 2 night stay at Camp McCarthy. Denise is a great host, wanting to make sure our stay went well. The details that have gone into make this place comfortable, yet one with nature, has been well thought out. I would highly recommend a stay at this scenic and unique spot.

From the first inquiry to our checkout, Denise was an amazing host. I have to admit, being from California, I was a bit worried about the “tents” and bears (these aren't your typical California black bears). I am glad I chose Camp McCarthy versus a traditional cabin. In the end, I felt silly to be so fearful. The tent cabins were solid and the accommodations were perfect. Inside the tents the beds and bedding were so warm and cozy and there is a place to charge devices using a solar charger! The shower stall and outy were clean and well maintained. There is a pavilion area to hang out at to eat, converse and store food. My family of five left feeling like we had a memories of Alaska to hold on to for the rest of our lives. I hope to return again someday and if we do, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

We visited Camp McCarthy at the beginning of August. As a family of 5, we had the whole, glorious camp to ourselves. Starting each day with coffee while taking in the sounds of the river and views of the mountains was truly special. Denise truly has thought of every detail to make camp comfortable and fun. We enjoyed the nature trail, sitting around the campfire & playing corn hole. The pavilion was stocked with all necessities.The tents were outfitted with super comfy beds and linens. The hot water bottles kept us toasty on one chilly night.
Denise has created a remarkable retreat close to the footbridge and it is a truly special place. We will definitely recommend it to our friends!

This place is truly a paradise! The mountain views are so beautiful. It was so relaxing to sit out in the early morning or in the evening..it’s incredibly peaceful. |The accommodations are top notch! This is our 1st experience with glamping and we loved it! The beds are so comfortable, and all the blankets and down comforter made for a very good night sleep. The furry rug beside the bed felt wonderful when we got up! It was also an added plus to have a charging station for our devices. The pavilion was a great place to hangout while we fixed and ate our meals. And having a hot shower at the end of the day was a real treat. Denise thought of everything….even a zapper for the mosquitoes if they got bad and crocs to wear around camp instead of clunky boots or shoes! She’s also a wealth of knowledge with the area. All her suggestions of things to do or how to organize our 3 days helped us a lot. We felt like we really got to see and experience all the best of the McCarthy-Kennicott area. |I highly recommend Camp McCarthy to anyone coming up to Wrangell-St. Elias NP. It’s so nice and very convenient!

When I found out 5 of my cousins were coming for their first trip to Alaska, I knew I had to take them someplace special. Camp McCarthy provided us exactly what everyone was looking for. A wonderful place to come home to after a day of exploring, and an amazing place to enjoy coffee in the morning. Denise had thought of everything to make our stay perfect, from the luxury glamping to the pavilion. I can't wait to bring my next visitors to Camp!

Camp McCarthy was amazing, a definite 5 star glamping experience. The owner, Denise has thoughtfully added many touches that elevated the pampered experience. The beds were comfortable with enough blankets to keep out the evening chill. Shag rugs to step onto when getting out of bed, solar paneled charging stations, showers, fire pit, corn hole, walking trails, adjustable child seat for the outhouse, the list goes on and on. And the focal point, a beautifully crafted pavilion to spend time with friends and family while taking in the views. The town of McCarthy is an easy 20 minute walk. I look forward to visiting again when Denise has had the opportunity to bring more of her visions for Camp McCarthy to fruition. Highly recommend.

Camp McCarthy was so beautiful! It was quiet and secluded with the most amazing views. Denise has an eye for detail and we couldn’t be happier with the location, accommodations and hospitality of our host! We look forward to going again!
