They advertise a "cafe, bar/lounge, and pool", which NONE of these things are open. The property itself is relaxing and gorgeous. The trees and brook are serene. The staff is very friendly. Hotel rooms comfy and very clean. But besides a small convience store, there is not much to see and do here. Im hoping this place gets restored and the pool, cafe, and brookroom reopen to its full glory. I hope they can get an owner who cares more about the property.

We had an amazing weekend here! The rooms are large, newly remodeled, and very comfortable. We even had a really big private balcony. The historic part of the lodge is really cool and spooky looking. The staff knew all the history of the lodge and the area, they were basically tour guides!

The room was spacious and looked clean. We arrived at 3:00 pm and thankfully the room was ready. As we opened the door the musty odor was too much and we had to open the balcony door and windows. There is no microwave or coffee maker in the room which could be a nice touch. At night, I wanted to use the balcony which was very nice but the bulb was out. By the way the handle of the door to the balcony was broken as well. Overall we liked it and I can say with a little more attention from the owners, it can be one of the nicest place to stay.

We've stayed here many times over the last 6 years because family lives nearby and it's convenient. Rooms are always clean. Management is always responsive to any issues. This time, we got upgraded to a king suite and got a discounted rate, both without asking. They need help raising money to finish repairs on the historical room that has the creek under/in the floor. We will stay here again.

My first time back in over 20 years, and it didn’t disappoint! The whole wonderful experience started at the front desk with a gentleman named Josh. He was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful; a great first impression. | Our room was clean, and the shower was nice and HOT. It was great to enjoy the crisp Redwood air from the balcony while taking on the breathtaking scenery.| The Brookdale Lodge has everything you need for a comfortable, lengthy stay. There is a small 711 type convenience/liquor store on site, as well as a bar and a 1950’s style cafe with an extensive menu.| The historic pool and Brook room were still under renovation when we stayed, but we will be back , so we didn’t sweat it that much. | We checked out with another wonderful employee at the Lodge named Rosebud-her friendliness was the perfect punctuation to our stay.|Can’t wait to return.

My husband and I drove from Reno,NV, over snowy Donner pass just to stay at Brookdale Lodge and it was worth every mile to get here! We came here for a Valentines Day weekend getaway for 3 days. Let me start off by saying how wonderful the staff is here! We weren't sure if we were going to be able to make it because of a snow storm, the staff was very understanding and canceled our reservation without a cancelation fee and said they would keep my name in the system just incase we were able to get there. We really wanted to stay there so we took our chance and drove through the snowstorm. As soon as we got over the pass we called them and they set up our reservation again. When we arrived to check in Chris and Josh were so accommodating and friendly. They were extremely helpful and kind. Thank you!!
The TV in our room was not working, they offered to change our room or bring us a new TV. But it wasn't a big deal because I wasn't there to watch TV. On our reservation I asked for a lower room because I was traveling with my dog and my hubby can't climb stairs. Our room was perfect! It had a back porch with a table and chair so i could walk outside or sit with my dog. Upper rooms have balconies. They did a great job updating the rooms and it was very clean. The bed was comfortable. I love the shutters instead of curtains. Our room had a jacuzzi tub, we didn't use it but it was a cool feature.
The property itself was really neat and beautiful. I love history and historical properties, so I was fascinated with this property. Keep in mind when staying here or booking this hotel, that it is over 150 years old and also a historic landmark. It has a great story. Because of its age it does need maintenance in areas. But I believe the owners have already done a lot to help keep this hotel classy, beautiful and comfortable. Areas like the pool and the area where the creek runs through the lodge are closed to the public. But i can imagine renovating and restoring a 150 year old property takes time and money. It will be amazing when they are able to renovate those areas. I applaud the owner for taking on the task!
The lounge area was neat and cozy, there is a bar and live music. There is also a store on site for snacks, drinks, souvenirs or toiletries. The Cafe was not open during our stay, but it does look like a cool spot. There was a taco truck on site for quick food.
The internet says this place is haunted, I didn't experience anything weird, and yes I did walk around hoping I would. I even walked around at night with my dog and nothing happened. I felt completely safe. So don't let that deter you if it sounds scary.
The location is perfect! It's close to many trails, parks, coffee shops, shopping and restaurants. Its only 30 minutes to Santa Cruz beaches. Phone service is spotty but they do offer free wifi that worked great!
This was our first time staying here and it won't be our last. We really enjoyed our stay here. I can't wait to come back in summer.
Thank you for a wonderful stay!
