Grew up in Helena then moved in 1994 but always tried to make a trip to Bob Sykes every chance I got. Now that I’m a mom I brought my husband and son and they both enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and staff. It’s just as I remember from my childhood and it brought back so many many good memories. Thank you for continuing to remain open so we can come get some of the best BBQ around. Never had a bad meal here and traveled all the way from Panama City Fl. to vacation and get some Bob Sykes.

I stopped by Bob Sykes for the first time on a roadtrip back in 2022. Since then, I have found my way back anytime I'm within a stones throw away. The food is always exceptional. I particularly enjoy the pork, onion rings and okra. My wife loves the peach cobbler and lemon cake. Their sauce is also great. I typically bring a couple bottles back home with me to hold me over between visits. Bob Sykes has an authentic atmosphere. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you're near Birmingham.

Blown away by how amazing my lunch was. The burger, onion rings, and fries were incredible. Friends had the pork plate and it looked great as well. Can’t wait to go back. Awesome atmosphere on the inside too!

Some of THE best bbq we've had in quite sometime. They actually have the pit inside the restaurant so you can see the meat being cooked. Portions are big and the prices are very inexpensive. The red velvet cake was to die for!~ Didn't care for the baked beans at all. But the mac n cheese was ON POINT!~ The ribs were meaty-no sauce needed. The service was GREAT!~ Will most def be back if we're ever in the area.

Great place to go. Been there for many years. It is truly one of the best places in Alabama to eat. The food is like no other place. Words can't describe the food. Fantastic!!! If you pass through stop by and enjoy Bob Sykes BBQ. I give this visit 5 thumbs up ?.

I recently visited Bob Sykes BBQ with high hopes, given its long-standing reputation. However, my experience was a mixed bag, leaving me a bit underwhelmed.

Starting with the food, I ordered the large pulled pork sandwich, expecting a flavorful and satisfying meal. Unfortunately, it was mediocre at best. The pork lacked the depth of flavor and tenderness you would expect from a place specializing in barbecue. It was dry and didn’t have the smoky richness that I was hoping for. On the upside, the onion rings were quite good—crispy, well-seasoned, and not too greasy. They were the highlight of the meal, providing a satisfying crunch with each bite.

The biggest disappointment, however, was the service. After placing my order, there was a significant delay in receiving the additional food I had already paid for. I had to wait much longer than expected, which was frustrating. The staff seemed somewhat disorganized, and I had to remind them about the missing items, which took away from the overall dining experience.

In summary, while Bob Sykes BBQ has some redeeming qualities, particularly the onion rings, the overall experience was marred by a mediocre pulled pork sandwich and service issues. I hope they can improve on these fronts, as the potential for a great barbecue experience is there, but it’s not quite being realized at the moment.

Loved it!! My 1st return since the pandemic. Did not disappoint. The salad was great. Onion rings great. I have been back 2 times. The chili is excellent. The wings? Chopped pork and brisket ?
