Wonderful accommodations, clean, comfortable, quiet neighborhood and interesting hosts. Fran serves delicious meals. Best inn I’ve ever encountered. Alaska hospitality at its best. Enjoy the scenery by walking to the town center and harbor.

We had a much-too-short visit, arriving on the ferry, then flying out the next morning. John and Fran were so accommodating, hospitable, friendly, and generous. We really appreciated our stay in the Kingfisher- a comfortable apartment with full kitchen. The breakfast and company were great. Fran graciously accommodated my wife's dietary restrictions and John helped us get sorted out down at the airport. Thank you! We would love to come again for a longer visit.

I have had the pleasure of staying at the Blue Heron on two occasions, both during scientific field work that I was doing up at Hubbard Glacier. The Blue Heron is one of my favorite places to stay anywhere. The proprietors, Fran and John, are just wonderful people, always friendly and always striving to accommodate whatever needs we have. The rooms are nicely appointed, and come in a variety of sizes and bed configurations to accommodate a variety of party numbers and requirements. The food is fabulous - they'll not only cook you breakfast but will also prepare lunch and dinner if requested. But my favorite thing of all is the back deck, overlooking Yakutat Bay. There are spectacular views of the St. Elias mountains (when the weather cooperates), and I could spend seemingly endless moments watching the bald eagles soar about.

The Blue Heron Inn, is located close to the water and is in it's own forest. John and Fran are great hosts. They do a good job of keeping a nice place that makes it easy to relax.
They don't do breakfast, but supply you with a hot pot for coffee and tea.
It is close to places to get your meals.
I really enjoyed my stay.

We stayed in the upstairs unit with a full kitchen, bathroom, and private bedroom. The comfortable space would sleep at least 5 comfortably and it was well furnished with cooking utensils, towels, bedding, and videos. Our hostess Fran was kind and casual and fixed two knock-out breakfasts that we enjoyed at at large table overlooking the shorebirds play on Monti Bay. It was a great view and probably better when the mountains are out. She also provided recommendations and directions for local sights and businesses. Whether you're there for fishing, surfing, or relaxing - don't miss Cannon Beach!

John and Fran Latham are the quintessential Alaskans. Kind and fun, yet hardy and experienced. John has been a hunting guide since the 70s and his innate understanding and appreciation of nature shows. His collection of fish and bird sculptures and decoys is utterly impressive. The view of the cove from the breakfast table is exquisite on any day, but we happened to be there when the herring were spawning in April and the sea ducks, early shorebirds, herons and kingfishers were ecstatic. You can't give Fran and John credit for the spectacular location, but you can give them credit for a classy, clean and well-run B&B as well as tasty, hearty, and varied breakfasts. They have a variety of accommodations, from B&B rooms attached to the house to simple rooms without cooking options. If you are planning activities that will take you out into the water and rain, it's a relief to know that they have set their boiler room up as a drying room for gear.||||Whether you're in Yakutat for a conference (like we were), birding, hunting, or fishing, you couldn't pick a classier place.

I stayed there last year and plan to stay there again this year. I showed up with a regular reservation and the kind owner offered me a beautiful upper level room with some fabulous mounts of just about every kind of Alaska wildlife you can imagine. Being a Government traveler, I wasn't expecting to get such a wonderful room at the GSA rate. The breakfast was wonderful too and I was offered as much as I could eat.
