Came in right at the start of happy hour, was impressed at the beer selection and happy hour prices. Had 3 beers in total and loved all of them! The burrito I picked has unfortunately just been dropped off the menu, but the selection was great so I had no problem finding a new choice. The bartender even helped me and made some recommendations. I ended up with the general tsos tofu burrito. Everything was delicious and I wish I lived near here to revisit. Don't sleep on the Black Sheep!

I was here in Charleston for a short visit and stopped in for dinner. I got their shredded ribeye burrito and wasn’t impressed. They call it the “hot mess” There was a massive amount of rice and lettuce in the burrito. Not much other flavorful toppings. I kept getting mouthfuls of these. Maybe that’s how “fusion” burritos are supposed to be and it’s just not for me. Also, I would’ve preferred queso over the whole thing and not just half. For almost 20 bucks I expected better. A really good burrito not stuffed with what seemed to be fillers to save on the more expensive ingredients. Service was top notch and it is a cool place to visit, but the food needs some work.

Brunch was unique and full of unique flavors! Not what you think of when you think of traditional breakfast foods, especially for our area of the country. The mix of breakfast, lunch, and Californian West Coast Tex-Mex blended well. We had the sausage huevos ranchos and the classic chorizo quesadilla. The quesadilla was packed with cheese, robust flavored chorizo, potatoes, and onions. The portion size was so massive I could only eat 1/4 of it before being stuffed. My husband’s huevos ranchos was also a perfectly balanced blend of house made sausage, eggs, beans, sauce and crispy chips. It is a bit of a wet dish, just to forewarn anyone who might not like that type of thing. Service was quick and friendly. Prices for the portion sizes were excellent. Definitely a great brunch spot. Also to note: they don’t allow subtituions. If you’re into craft beer and drinks they also offer an extensive menu.

Overall, we had a good dinner here. The chips, queso, and salsa were excellent. The margarita I had was also excellent. My husband ordered the badass burrito and added steak. He was disappointed with it due to the steak being tough, dry, and bland, and the rice had many crunchy pieces. He said the burrito overall didn't have much flavor. The street corn potato salad was also really bland. I ordered three tacos: the chipotle-orange pork, thai shrimp, and steak. I had the same issue with the steak, but the other two tacos were delicious and very flavorful! The seating is a bit uncomfortable, but the atmosphere is nice.

We just had drinks. The Irish red and the porter were excellent. We were from out of town and always appreciate when the bartenders engage with us so we can find out more about the establishment and the area. The waiter did his job but personally we would have appreciated some engagement, especially since there was only one other person at the bar.

Thoughtful Fusion

For my birthday dinner, we decided to try Blacksheep Burrito. After browsing through several restaurant menus filled with the usual steak, chicken, and pasta options, my wife suggested BB. She’d been there before for business happy hour events and enjoyed it. I realized it had been nearly a decade since we’d eaten there together. While I’m a fan of the Californian burrito concept and frequent spots like Hellbenders in Davis or Black Bear in Morgantown, Blacksheep hasn’t been on my radar as much.

The menu, however, is outstanding—an exciting mix of street tacos, quesadillas, burgers, salads, and, of course, burritos. Their focus on Asian and Mexican fusion offers a thoughtful blend of flavors, paired with a full bar featuring microbrews and cocktails. Our server was excellent and brought me a couple of beer samples to try before I settled on a Kölsch, which I really enjoyed.

To start, we ordered chips and queso. The queso was delicious—creamy and flavorful. I’d definitely order it again. For entrees, my wife chose the breakfast burrito, while I opted for three street tacos: Korean bulgogi, Thai shrimp, and Chipotle Orange pork, served with a cold Korean noodle salad.

While the concept of the tacos was exciting, the execution was a one sided. The bulgogi was just sweet, and the shrimp taco leaned heavily on spice without much complexity. I saved the pork taco for lunch, so I can’t comment yet, but I did prefer my wife’s black beans over the noodles on my plate.

That said, the prices are fair given today’s dining landscape, and I’d certainly return to give other dishes a try. Next time, I’m definitely ordering the General Tso’s Burrito—it’s been on my list for ages.

My first brunch at Black Sheep & I've been missing great good!
Sorry, no pics (on a 1st date), but I had the quesadillas and they were very good. My date had the chicken and waffles spicy-style & I didn't expect to appreciate the combo, but i was pleasantly surprised. It was quite good!
The mimosa wasn't great, and it felt like 115 degrees in there, but our server was the nicest guy ever!
It was worth an early trip on a Sunday, and that's saying a lot from me (Noon on Sunday was early for me).

Tempura shrimp taco was completely wet and inedible. I took one bite and spat it out. Flavors were just off, shrimp had an awful metallic/dirty taste.

Chicken quesadilla was all grease and mostly just cheese, with small bits of chopped chicken. Tasted microwaved.

Beer was good though.
