Overall this was a great place to stay at. I stayed at the Inn, so I'm not sure if they are privately owned like the cabins, but the room was really nice. The location was perfect as only a few minutes from where I needed to be to attend a wedding and only 10 minutes from Davis. While the water was nice and hot. The water pressure was lacking and the shower was a much slower process. Filling up the jacuzzi took 40 minutes. So just be aware, but it is a great addition to have in your room and you will use it!
One thing that needs upgraded, was the TV. It have a bunch of lines constantly scrolling through the background of whatever you were watching. Some shows wasn't noticeable and others, it stood out big time. Every channel, but channel 6 worked on my TV. Unfortunately I didn't get to watch a few games on two nights I had hoped to watch cause that channel wasn't working.

I paid $150 per night for three nights, total came out to over $600 after taxes and other fees they charge. Wasn't a deal breaker as the location was perfect for what I needed, but just be aware of it.

It was very peaceful and had no noise problems at all. AC and heat both worked as needed. The rooms do come with a lot and overall they were really nice to stay and relax in.

I had an average stay at Black Bear Resort. The location was ideal, just a short drive from area attractions and the towns of Thomas and Davis. The property offers a large lodge with games and a library, there's also mini golf. A beautiful view of the mountains is a great backdrop for the pool, even though the pool was closed all year. The room itself was honestly the least pleasant part of the stay.

While the in-room jacuzzi was a nice touch, it took quite a while to fill. Additionally, the AC had some technical issues, with very little air moving and very little cold being added. I didn't mind the room being dated, as it fits the vibe. I appreciate the microwave and fridge, but was not really a fan of the bed. Despite these inconveniences, the room was generally quiet and peaceful. We met some neighbors that were also from our state and had a fun evening of dinner and drinks in town. We also really enjoyed the free concert that the neighboring horse farm had on Saturday night!

The price point was reasonable, considering the location and amenities.

Overall, Black Bear is a good choice for those seeking a convenient place to stay in the area. But I think "resort" is a bit of a stretch for the name. I also would recommend the office inspect the individual rooms/cabins to ensure everyone is getting the comfort they expect during their stay. The staff was aware that the AC unit in our room had previous issues, yet we were still experiencing the same during our stay.

When you walk into the main lobby of this "resort" the first thing you notice is the huge fireplace in a main gathering are. Being that said fireplace had no fire going, or even some candles lit if the fireplace had fallen out of code, to welcome visitors on a completely booked weekend the first red flag immediately popped up. My impression was that the people working that day have given up on their jobs, no longer care about ambiance, and have tossed customer service out the window. When we got to our cabin, I was pleasantly surprised to the cleanliness. It was "cozy" for the first twenty minutes of our stay. Having read some review about BBR, I was worried. Boxes of fireplace logs left by the previous owners were still bunched in a corner but mistakes happen. We all make them. While BBR may have a cleaning staff it appears they do not employ a maintenance staff. I have never stayed in a vacation rental that was in such desperate need of caulk, remote batteries, and Bullseye paint. Wow. The owners of Cabin 79 must not care, AT ALL, about the experience the customer has who rents their cabin. This was further evidenced by the quality of the mattresses in the cabin. My wife and I left after one night of a supposed three night stay. I am over fifty and quality of sleep is important to my overall well being, especially if that well being involves being active and skiing. The owners of Cabin 79 at Black Bear Resort should be ashamed of themselves for making their renters sleep on such old, sunken-in, destroyed mattresses. If you are under 40 and don't have any lower-back issues, you can probably get by no problem. My wife is 40 and she couldn't sleep well either and she has fewer physical problems to worry about than myself. Then there was the TV. Terrible viewing issues due to screen deterioration. Modern TVs are very inexpensive. Spend 200 bucks and get a new one for your customers! Use the money you made off our shortened stay to buy a TV for anyone willing to suffer through a "vacation" in your cabin. A vacation should be spending money to go to a place that is at least a touch better than your home. What my wife and I experienced at Cabin 79 was a major downgrade and I wouldn't want anyone else to lose money by having to get out of a horrible situation early. I have a few other minor issues that ruffled some feathers but it is time to put Cabin 79 and Black Bear Resort in the past, which will be difficult since we just got the credit card statement with our three-night stay. This place is not worth the risk. Visit Davis another weekend or go to Snowshoes or Wisp if this place is all that is avaliable.

My husband and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary here and it was absolutely amazing! Very friendly staff who didn’t bother you and the cabin (20B) was so clean and welcoming. The jacuzzi was great and our neighbors (horses) were the highlight of our trip. Will definitely be back!

Booked unit 9 based off photos provided by black bear resort site only to arrive to a totally disgusting unit. It was filthy and in disrepair. The unit was nothing close to the photos posted. The owner of the property should be ashamed to provide such a property and the black bear resort should be ashamed to offer such. Since we arrived after dark and after hours we suffered though a miserable and stressful night only to go the office when they opened the next morning to hear there was nothing they could do. We packed and left out that morning. The sad thing is this resort has potential but the stands set and held by the management is pitiful and until such time as they increase minimum standards and hold owners to minimums it will be sub standard.

Beautiful spot central to all things Davis/Thomas/Canaan Valley. I love that you are 10 minutes to Davis or 10 minutes to Timberline/Canaan Valley/White Grass for skiing. You definitely need a four-wheel-drive in the snow. You are close to Dolly Sods and Seneca Rocks for summer adventures.

The main lodge is cute and open during normal business hours. Each cabin has their own unique feel- Definitely check out all the different cabins online to see which one is the right fit for you.

Spent our anniversary weekend “On Mountain Time” unit 76 and it was awesome. This is a newly renovated unit and it didn’t disappoint. Kitchen was perfectly stocked and the beds were very comfortable. I recommend this unit if you’re looking for a mountain vacation. We can’t wait to go back. 10 out of 10.
