We spent four days in Big Bend National Park! We broke the park into four sections and spent a day in each! Big Bend is huge! Driving takes a lot of time! When we left, we were glad we took the time to thoroughly explore each area! We highly recommend The Dinosaur Exhibit! It is one of the best dinosaur exhibits we have seen! We spent time birding in each campground picnic area. Saw Javelinas in the Rio Grande Village picnic area. We thoroughly enjoyed our Santa Elena hike! ||A last minute call to the Chisos Mountains Lodge secured us a room for one night. We had a room with two queen beds and a balcony. Too bad the January temps were not conducive to sitting outside. Our room had a wonderful view of The Window area! We were on the first floor and had to lug our suit cases up quite a few steps! However, staying in National Park lodging is always a treat! We were able to get great photos of the sunset AND sunrise! I would not trade that opportunity! The Chisos Basin area is spectacular! ||Dinner at the lodge restaurant was very good. Our server was efficient and friendly! I had a hamburger and fries (the fries were delicious). My daughter had Ravioli and said it was hot and delicious! ||Construction in the Chisos Basin area will begin in May, 2025 and continue for approx. two years!

Big Bend Lodge is a unique property. Located on a bend in the South Fork of the Eel River, it consists of nine cabins - six one bedroom cabins that sleep 4 or 5 and 3 studios that sleep 3 or 4. Our group of family and friends rents out all nine cabins. It makes for a relaxing vacation. ||There are common areas for cooking and eating, and a fire pit for making sโ€™mores and singing campfire songs. For the sporty thereโ€™s a basketball hoop and ping pong table and an excellent swimming hole down by the river, with rocks to climb and jump off of and rapids to ride on an inner tube. Fun to be had all around.

We stayed in side-by-side cabins with my brother's family and loved the time warp back in time to the 1950's (with a modern twist). The cabins are cute and clean and have everything you need for a comfortable stay. We had 4 adults, 5 kids and our dog and had the best time floating down the rapids in the river, jumping into swimming holes, and sunning ourselves on the sandy beach. The campfire at night was a highlight sharing s'more supplies with our neighbors and a bottle or two of fine whiskey for the adults. We are going back this summer to take advantage of all the redwood hikes in the area.

A wonderful locally owned cabin retreat. The cabins are fully equipped and very cozy. The river is amazing, I could have swam in it all day long. Warm water and slow current. They have tubes to play in. So glad I went!

BBL is an amazing spot. The river alone makes it incredible, but WAIT...there's more! It's situated right on a bend of the Eel River that's one of the best places to swim EVER! It's like a natural Olympic size swimming pool surrounded by cliffs, with beautiful trees on one side, and a beach and valley on the other. Breathtaking.||There are hikes all over the property, too. So far my favorite is one that goes up a tributary of the river. It's like being in Jurassic Park without the dinosaurs. Super lush, waterfalls everywhere, with a few deep pools to dunk in. ||The lodge, and all that goes with it, are great, too. The cabins are super sweet - retro rustic, with all you'd ever need to cook a great meal. Each cabin comes with its own BBQ, too. There are picnic tables and a fire pit in the center of the cabins, so it's a perfect place to go with a big group, or a great place to meet new people. You can be as social as you want to be.||If you're into activities (besides hanging at the beach or inner tubing), there's ping pong, badminton and a big cozy indoor game room. There's also great biking in the area.||I'd recommend to everyone. It's the perfect place to get away and feel like you've REALLY gotten away.

Our room was clean, had a great shower and fully equipped kitchen. The beach was nice to lay out on and we enjoyed swimming in the river. We also loved playing ping pong and basketball. Nightly fire was a great way to end the night. We would definitely stay here again.

I've agonized over how to convey how much I love Big Bend Lodge. It is truly my favorite place to be. From the cozy cabins to the beautiful scenery, it is summertime perfection. There is no cell phone service and no internet connection. There is only nature, swimming, books, games, and conversations with friends. You can tell this place is lovingly cared for. I can't wait to return.

We discovered BBL about 5 years ago and it's become my favorite summer getaway spot. Where else can you be in a spectacular wilderness setting yet have the comfort of hot running water, comfortable beds and fully equipped kitchens. What a joy to see kids (and grown-ups) running around being kids, minus electronic gadgets or cell phones, making s'mores around the campfire at night and playing all day in the river. It's all about the river, and BBL features some of the best swimming holes in Northern California. Most guests spend the bulk of their time at the main beach, but a short walk upstream brings you to another magical spot, and for the adventurous, there's a splendid deep hole downstream that requires a bit of bushwhacking but well worth the effort. Keep in mind BBL is rustic - surrender to your kids getting dirty and tracking sand everywhere, and mosquitos can be fierce at dusk - bring repellant. Pay attention to the 'What to bring' list, in order to avoid that hour round trip into Laytonville (which has a very well stocked grocery store). A great place to unplug, unwind and rejuvenate.
