The rooms were beautiful, spotless, and very comfortable. Our hosts were kind, welcoming, and extremely helpful. This is a gorgeous location- sitting outside next to the river was extremely relaxing. The town is nestled in a beautiful area of the mountains. We loved our stay so much that, even before we left, we booked another stay to come back in October when the leaves change.

We had a wonderful one night stay in Dec 2024 in the Willow Suite! The space is very inviting, well decorated & comfortable. The Willow suite has a large sitting area, in addition to a table for eating or playing games & the bedroom & bathroom. There was only a limited kitchen but that was fine for our needs. It is located in a very small town which was fine with us & we had an enjoyable talk with a local man at a place down the street who helped with the renovations of Basswood. Our contact at Basswood was Ian & his communication & instructions were very detailed & clear. We would gladly stay here again.

Basswood really exceeded all our expectations. It was truly home away from home. My kids, who have trouble sleeping in the hotels, fell asleep without a problem. They loved the place so much that they want to go back to Basswood.
Room was clean and spacious with plenty of natural light. We went during Christmas time, so we had great view of Christmas lights.
I also want to note that owner is very helpful and informative. We had to change our reservation, and he was very understanding and helpful. Prior to our arrival he shared recommendations on places to eat. By the way place across the street is definitely a gem.

A true 5 star experience! Impeccably clean. Quiet and private. Ian was proactively responsive and exceeded our needs. The property is even more spacious than the pictures. The Sycamore room had natural light streaming from three sides of the home- views of the river and the bridge. Well appointed property was all in the details from fine linens to a large assortment of Kuerig coffees and teas with sugar and creamer provided. In town we loved walking to the Farmers Daughters burgers and evening of music at the River House!

Basswood was a delightful place to stay in Capon Bridge. Ian, the host, has thought of every need a guest might have. Basswood is within walking distance of restaurants and close to many other attractions. I would absolutely stay there again.

It's located in a quiet small town in West Virginia. There are enough parking space on the drive way. Took a walk to the back of the house, the dedicated entrance of the suite appeared. The room is filled with stylish decorations, there was even a book shelf full of books. The bathroom was squeaky clean, all in white color. The communication with the host was very easy, he helped to answer all my questions promptly. I would like to go back again.

My wife and I stayed at the Basswood in the Paw Paw room, which is located on the first floor. It was exceptionally clean and neat. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom has a two shower head shower. There is a Keurig coffee maker with K-cups, along with sugar and creamer, a small microwave and small refrigerator along with a large screen TV. There are other rooms in the Basswood used by guests and the place was filled, but the only time I saw the others was in the parking lot. There is a couple areas outside where you can sit and enjoy the babbling creek. A butcher is located across the street where you can get a burger during lunch hours which had more than a few customers. We also visited the American Legion Post, located less than a mile away, which serves dinners. For breakfast we had to travel a few miles down the turnpike toward Gore, VA, but there is also a restaurant located two buildings away from the Basswood that had just opened under new management the weekend we were there. We were in Capon Bridge for music performance at the River House which is located next to the steel bridge. They serve sandwiches, coffee and pastries. It is a non-profit with different events and is within walking distance from the Basswood. Ian, the owner of the Basswood was very helpful in providing directions and information and was concerned that we had everything we needed, which we did. It was a very pleasant stay and I highly recommend the place.

The Basswood is 2 hrs away from metro DC and it is a world away from that busy city. You'll not find a closer and more comfortable place to relax and slow your pace down. We like the Sassafras room - but all the rooms are lovely. This town of Capon Bridge is peaceful - and plan on stocking up on meats across the street at the Farmers Daughter (best cheeseburgers ever!) and grab a coffee and conversation a block down the street at the River House. Get away too wonderful WV !
