Ordered three types of fried fish. I have to say that I like that they make them fresh to order. Size portions are decent. Catfish was our favorite with the red snapper second. Do note the fish is fried, so if you have salt or dietary issues I would skip for now. Collard greens with pork was good and not too overcooked. Food is comfort food, not fancy. Place was busy so that's a sign of good food. Prices were very reasonable. Take out only. Food is packaged well. Staff is mellow, so just place your order and move on.

Ordered a meal on #TooGoodToGo Sunday. Pickup was 3:30-4:00 on Monday. Drove out there from Ocean Beach. Took about 45 minutes with traffic plus $$ gas. Sign on door said closed on Monday. Called on Tuesday and explained what happened. Understanding worker I spoke with took my name & phone # said Mngr will call you back. No call. Not good.

Called in a phone order for the 6 piece catfish family meal with red beans and rice and potato salad as sides with a order of peach cobbler as dessert. They quoted me 15 minutes until it was ready. Got to the store around the 15 minute mark and was told it was gonna be a little longer. No problem, the fresher the fish the better in my book. When my order came out, not more than 8 minutes past the quoted time, the counter lady apologized. They are always kind the hospitality here is top notch. Look no further for the best soul food and service in San Diego.

I can't believe I never left a Google review for this place. Menu varies based on what's popular and what sells out quickest, but it's all good. The staff is glad to see you Everything from the sale to the food is wonderful. Do it

California vibes with southern hospitality with good ol ol ol southern home cooked meals. I had 2 fried catfish and red snapper dinner with 2 sides, which includes something to drink. The food was so excellent, the fish was not over fried with the perfect amount of seasonings. Collard greens were cooked to perfection, not too mushy but not hard either, and of courses you have the 3 options to choose from. Cornbread is both fluffy and crispy on the edges and savoring with every bite. Butter cake moist and not overly sweet. Arnold palmer drink was good also. This place is an absolute gem

This place was pretty good for the most part. I would have given a better but the Fried Chicken was a little dried out and the Sweet Tea was a little old. The chicken did have some good flavor though. The best was the BBQ Shredded pork over a bed of potatoes which also had amazing flavor. High scores and i would go back for just that. The Black-Eyed Peas were good over a well cooked white rice.

Ordered the smothered chicken, greens and green beans. Hubby had catfish, yams and Mac and cheese.

Let’s start with the location. Perfect location. Good seating. Quick service. Everyone was so nice! Reminds of my grandmothers house. Old school. I was looking for the plastic couch. (In a good way #memories)

As for the food… mac and cheese was the best we ever had. Ever! Greens could easily rival mine. So so good. The smothered chicken and catfish were seasoned to perfection. Large portions too.

Now the not so good. Them green beans and yams came straight out the can with not one ounce of seasoning, tailoring, or flavoring. I so wish they were great like the rest of the meal but not so.

Even with that minor misstep this is probably one of the best soul food spots I’ve ever been to and trust me I’ve traveled. I highly recommend stopping in, stepping back into grandmas livingroom and enjoying a meal made with so much love.

Edit: how dare I forget the peach cobbler!?!?!? Baaaaabyyyyy. When I say slaps? That cobbler slapped. Get some!!!

It's OK. I used to go here a lot in 2019. After church, this was my go-to spot. Back then, I would get fried whiting or red snapper, mac n cheese, and switch up between the vegetables. During this time, the food was decently seasoned. This most current visit, i can't say the same. They no longer have whiting or snapper on the menu. Now it's just swai, tilapia, and catfish. I got the swai. It was fried perfectly but tasted like much of nothing. The mac n cheese is like the stuff you get in a box. As I looked around at the staff I'm not sure anyone in there has ever been to Mississippi. I came this day because the fish market was closed. Next time, I'm craving fried fish just going to the grocery store and frying my own. Won't be back.
