Charming, cozy art-filled inn. Freda, the owner hostess, was gracious, friendly and very helpful. She made dinner reservations for us and gave us lots of recommendations on what to see and do. Our room was fine for 2 adults. The breakfast was delicious, lots of variety, well-prepared.

I want to be honest in my review to allow other travelers determine if Always Inn is your fit in a B and B. My husband, daughter and I booked the Ocean Dance room because it accommodated the 3 of us and our dog. The main reason we booked this place is because it is very dog friendly. We got our own parking spot, just in front of the house. There was a table with cookies and snacks for us to take, at our leisure. Our room was cozy. It looked better than the pictures on the website, in my opinion. We had a queen bed and a nice twin bed in the room. The jet tub did not work though. The toilet did run. The mattress was soft, but some people may prefer it that way. The smoke alarm had been removed from our room and the door did not lock. Upon reading other reviews, it appears to have been that way for at least 6 months. That was a concern for us, but not enough not to stay there for the night. I only hope that they fix that asap. We were lucky we were the only ones staying at the house that night. There was also a big screen tv and a refrigerator in the room. It was very nicely decorated. The pictures on the website are dated. Things have been moved around, as with any house. This place is a house turned bed and breakfast. The rooms are average room size, with any average home. There are a lot of cute, quirky, fun knickknacks and decorations throughout the home as well as the outside. It just adds to the charm of the place. The walls are on the thin side. You can hear everything going on in the kitchen in the morning when Freda is making your breakfast. We were able to get some much needed rest, though. If you choose not to have breakfast there, I suggest you let Freda, the host, know sooner than later. She made us a feast! So many different dishes. Each one as tasty as the next. She even made a steak breakfast (no spices) for our dog! Again, if you don't want that, let her know. She also sat with us and we had a nice conversation about a lot of things, while our dog had free access to the entire house. Freda is very friendly and chatty. She was the nicest host and she did everything she could to make us feel welcomed and at home. It was just like staying with a relative. Whatever we needed she got for us. The house is in a great location. Walking distance to the shops, restaurants, and the pier! I would not hesitate to stay here again!

A place that deserves all the recognition!!
After two failed attempts at getting a last minute hotel room after a night out on Labor Day weekend, we decided to give it a shot and call Freda at Always Inn San Clemente B&B. To our surprise, a warm and inviting woman answered the phone at 1am and welcomed us to stop in right away. She had one bedroom available - with the last guest that had just recently left and she quickly cleaned the room for us! This was my first time at a bed and breakfast and it was quite honestly a surreal experience. Freda was so warm and angelic and made us feel incredibly special and welcomed. Not to mention the insanely delicious breakfast feast she had prepared for us as we sat out on one of her beautiful patios. Always Inn quickly became a place that was hard to leave after only being there 10 hours. Freda has an energy unlike anything I’ve ever experienced and I cannot wait to return!!

Freda was so friendly and kind. The breakfast was delicious. The room was clean and comfortable. The location was very perfect for walking to restaurants and shopping. I would recommend the Always Inn for anyone that is planning a trip in and around San Clemente.

I have traveled the world and stayed at many BnBs but Freda the owner of Always Inn in San Clemente is by far the best I have ever encountered. Breakfast was a gourmet delight and I loved the gardens. Freda even gave me clippings to take home for my garden. The home is filled with delightful objects from Freda's world travels and she shares wonderful stories. Location is perfect to walk everywhere. This is a 12 on a 10 scale. She goes over and beyond to accommodate her guests.

I’ll keep my review short and sweet, just like our stay with the lovely Freda. It was my first time staying at a Bed and Breakfast and she set the bar so high that I don’t think another could ever compare!! Cannot wait to come back and enjoy more of her signature dishes. If you’re planning on staying anywhere else, you’re missing out on the stay of a lifetime.

We booked a room at the Always Inn for the weekend. Initially we booked the property through AirBnB but the hostess, Freda, called and told us to cancel the booking with them and book it through her. So we did. We choose this place because of its location, included breakfast, included parking, and dog friendly (we stated we would be bringing a dog on the AirBnB reservation, so the hostess knew it in advance). ||The property is VERY crowded outside with plants everywhere making it difficult to walk to the front door without being attacked by plants, cacti, and chicken wire. All of the outdoor furniture was filthy with leaves and dirt on it so there was really no where clean to sit.||||The inside is not much better. The inside is so crowded with stuff everywhere making it difficult to move around. Also the pictures on the website do not match the rooms. We were in the ocean dance room which had one queen bed and one twin bed and was decorated with stuff everywhere and even things hanging from the ceiling making it difficult to move around in too.||||The website says it has amenities of a four star hotel. The amenities consist of large containers of shampoo, conditioner and body wash that has pumps. The toilet did not flush properly and we had to constantly jiggle the handle to get it to quit running. Our door would not lock, the hostess was convinced it was caused by an earthquake. Even the ceiling fan squeaked making it noisy to sleep at night.||||The first morning, the hostess was cooking sausage that smelled like it was burning, and that is when the smoke alarm/CO alarm went off in our room, which had an opened window. It was only going off in our room and when we opened the door you could smell the smoke from the burning sausage. The hostess said she had problems with the other sensor located in the hallway outside of the kitchen and so she removed it. We pushed the button and got it to stop beeping but the alarm did go off several more times before we left to explore the area after eating breakfast (which did not get served until 10am and was not very good). During our exploration, the host texted us saying the detector in our room is going off again and we needed to leave. We were evicted and not refunded for the second night of our stay because she was convinced we were doing something unscrupulous (we don’t smoke/vape) to cause the alarm to repeatedly sound.||||In summary, the place is so crowded with clutter everywhere, inside and out. The kitchen is filthy, but to be fair, it is a commercial kitchen – not meant for guests to use or even enter. The location was excellent, as described. The included parking space was adequate, but would not fit anything larger than a 4-door sedan. The host was knowledgeable about the area, but was very chatty to the point of being annoying due to repeatedly interrupting conversations among guests. After this experience, I will ever rent a true bed & breakfast with a live-in host again.

Our weekend getaway at the Always Inn did not disappoint. The room with a plant ensconced patio and attached dedicated parking space was everything we hoped for. The location could not have been better, it is walking distance to all the shops, restaurants, and beach. Freida, host/owner, feels like an instant friend. She provided vast and extremely accurate recommendations and her cooking and menus way exceeded any expectations we had. We felt so welcome and content, we did not want to leave. Can't wait to go back.
