Together with friends, we stayed in Captain Kirk's Valhalla Lodge for several times during summertime for the salmon fishing season. |Every time our vacation was literally perfect! The lodge is very cozy and perfect for relaxing after a great and successful day at Alaska's famous rivers. Located directly at the Six Mile Lake, you may not find a more quaint scenery than around this place. The cabins are clean and classy for a lodge, but mostly comfortable. The main building offers a pool table, darts board, an open bar and a lot if sofa space to relax in front of the chimney in the evenings. Food is great and freshly prepared by the chef in the morning and in the evening. ||The fishing experience itself is awesome. You fly out with Captain Kirk, his son Chris and two additional guides (recently Eric and Jack) with water planes to the rivers and flyfish for salmon, trout, greyling or you simply go and watch grizzly bears fooling around your group in the rivers. All the guys are very professional and have a great attitude to treat customers the way it makes you feel save and well guided at all times. ||All other things like the scenery as you fly over Alaska's landscape, BBQ directly at the rivers, boat tours to the nearby located Tazimina River, freshly brewed morning coffee delivered to the cabins, laundry service, fast WiFi, etc. not to forget...||Everything together makes the time at Valhalla Lodge an incredible experience which for sure will not be a one-timer for anyone who has been there once!||See you this July there again for great Sockeye fishing. And for sure for all the rest described above...||

As an Atlantic salmon fisherman,I had always wanted to experience Catching a Pacific salmon. My wife had always wanted to view bears close up in their natural environment. Alaska was the obvious choice and we were fortunate that friends recommended Valhalla Lodge to us. From initial contact,it was clear that this was a friendly, caring and well run operation. It is a long journey from England, but well worth the effort and expense. We could not have been made more welcome, nor looked after better in any way. Kirk Gay the owner, ensured that all our needs were met. The guides, who also flew the float planes, were outstanding and ensured that I fished for and caught a full range of available salmon, wild rainbows, char and grayling. My wife stopped counting bears in the wild after fifty! Bears catching salmon, playing together and protecting their young - we saw it all. The accommodation in the log cabins was of a high standard, warm and comfortable, the view across six mile lake divine. The food under Kirk's direction was superb, ranging from fresh salmon(of course!) to duck, steak and rack of lamb. This was truly an experience of a lifetime, but one which we sincerely hope to repeat.

We have enjoyed Captain Kirk's hospitality many times at Valhalla Lodge. Together with his son Chris, the most skilled fishing guide one could possibly wish for, he offers a perfect package of world class salmon and big trout fishing. After a good night's sleep in your personal log cabin, you will wake up to the sound of the waves of Sixmile Lake and the scent of freshly brewed coffee. A hearty breakfast follows in the light of the rising sun. Then, Captain Kirk and his team of experienced pilots will fly out safely to the most remote fishing spots which they determine each day on the basis of weather and fish & game data. When you get hungry from catching bright silver salmon or trout, the team will bbq a fresh shore lunch. The day ends with an apéritif in front of a crackling fire in the lodge or, weather permitting, on the porch, and a classy dinner.

Having stayed there many times, this is as good as it gets. Lovely atmosphere here , with top notch cabins. Your staying with a real Alaskan family when your at Kirks, his skills at flying and guiding are unquestionably world class, after all he is the son of one of Alaskas finest pioneer outfitters, Ward Gay ! They are the original "Alaska Safaris Inc" since 1939! Legendary place you wont ever forget
