Did the bear tour into Hallo Bay (Katmai) and it was awesome. The flight in was pretty rough but so it goes! Much better than standing on a deck at Brooks Falls. The pilots/guides also take professional photos of the bears so if you want to stay off your phone and enjoy being in the moment you will still leave with amazing photos and they don't charge extra for you to download them. Highly recommend them. I also recommend planning quite a few days in Homer if this is your be all end all tour. Flights can get canceled because of weather and it can be common. Give yourself some extra time for a reschedule. Our flight wasn't cancelled but 50% of the flights the week before us were. Plan accordingly.

Probably the best experience of my life.
It was a dream, I did it and everything was perfect.
It was on August for the coastal trip.
Just the flight is awesome and landing and take of on and from the beach is an incredible experience.
The pilot/guide was so professional and kind.
Bears are there!!!
We can see them before landing and the first one came to us on the beach.
I want to do it again!!!
Since then I can't get the bears out of my mind.
The only negative point, it was too short time.
I wanted to stay so much longer 😁

This was the #1 highlight of our 12-day Alaska trip. We did the Coastal Bear excursion. Almost as incredible as the 3 hours up close with the bears was the beautiful scenic flight from Homer to the beach landing at Katmai National Park. Sam - our pilot and guide - was outstanding at ensuring our safety and providing a 5-star experience. Could not recommend this more!

This has to be on your bucket list when you’re in Alaska. The experience was out of this world and one we will never forget. Everyone we worked with-from booking, checking in, and the visit were extremely pleasant and 5* customer service. We did the private tour and would do the same if we had to do it all over again.

Words can’t describe our visit to Katmai. To be with the bears in their natural habit was surreal. Ben, our pilot and guide, found us the sites and provided a great narrative and learning opportunity along the way. We have some great photos to document our way.

Look no further than Alaska Bear Adventures. If you’re second guessing because of the price….it was well worth it. Do this!!

This was a bucket list trip for me and Alaska Bear Adventures exceeded my expectations. Although we went late in the season, we were able to see tons of bears. Watching them swim, fish, and devour their catch mere feet from the viewing platform is an experience I’ll never forget!

My husband and I went to Alaska in 2023 for the first time for 14 days - 7 days on land and 7 days on cruise, all booked through the cruiseline. This year we went again, taking our 18 year old grandson for his high school graduation trip. Last year we went on an excursion through the cruiseline to see Black Bears at a Salmon Hatchery. We traveled by boat for 1 hour and got to see the bears for 1 hours and saw 4 bears in one spot the whole time.
This year we went on the 7 day cruise first and then 7 days on land that we booked and selected the excursions. We chose the Alaska Bear Adventures to go see bears and it was sooo much better!! We went on a small plane to Katmai Island and saw Grizzly Bears!! They are so big! We saw a Momma bear and her cub first thing. We got some great pictures of them. Then we had a choice of going to see 3 other settings with bears. This continued the whole time. Our pilot was our guide and the 3 of us were his group, so he went at our pace and we got to see what we chose. We went into a meadow and saw 7 bears in different places. Then we saw some bears in the mud and water. One was digging and eating clams and another was fishing and they were both very successful! We saw a total of 13 bears before it was time to go back. The 3 hours of watching the bears passed very quickly. Then we flew back to the hangar. We saw beautiful landscapes and some wildlife both ways on the plane. Our pilot/guide was very good and they were all very conscientious not disturbing the bears or altering their habitat, and about safety for the bears and humans - even down to the crumbs of food that could be dropped! It was an awesome experience and I highly recommend THIS Bear excursion!!

This was by far one of the best experiences of our road trip through Alaska. The bears, scenery, flight, flyovers, pilots/guides, knowledge shared... everything was exceptional and the moment the grizzly walked by our crouched down group was breathtaking! I would say ditto to all the positive comments left by others! To those of you who may be hesitant to take this excursion because of any age or mobility concerns, let me share my situation as it may help you make the decision best for you. The rest of my travel group (including husband) went on a fishing excursion, for which I had no interest, so I went on this excursion alone. I am a 56 year old female, recovering from Achilles rupture surgery and PT over the last few months, so was concerned I wouldn't be able to keep up. I try to exercise by hiking and some gym work to continue my rehab, but would not consider myself the "picture of fitness". So with that, I was able to keep the walking pace with my ~10 lb bag and traverse the uneven terrain without issue, even wearing waders. The guides/pilots offered me a hand (literally), which was especially helpful when we waded through the hip-high river waters! The only thing I would caution is if you have any balance issues, you may have some troubles. Otherwise, if you routinely walk/hike and can carry a conversation while doing so, then this is the excursion for you!

It was OK. For $1400 per person, we saw in total five bears. Only two of them in the water. And neither one of them was really actively fishing. I would suggest that you check with the website for the national park in advance to get a sense of how actively are the salmon running. This year on July 1, the salmon are not actively running yet and as a result there are almost no bears in the river.

I’d imagine if you went in two weeks it would be a much different experience - likely see lots of bears and it would be a much better value for the money.
