I discovered this B&B when I brought my youngest out to see Washington after their high school graduation in 2015. I returned for a visit again with another family member in 2018. Both times, Bill was a such gracious host to us...actually, gracious is an understatement! I feel like I am staying with family when I've stayed there. The upstairs room is so peaceful. I sleep so well there! And I still dream about the sunporch breakfasts we had before going on our daily adventures. It's a lovely experience that I will always treasure and hope to be able to do again in the future. I hear the Sound calling me as I write this! So grateful to these wonderful folks for opening up their home as a B&B!

Delightful is the word that comes to mind about this B&B. Absolutely delightful would better describe the experience. The accomodations are very comfortable and inviting. We stayed in the two bedroom downstairs apartment which is eclectically furnished with memorabilia and reminders of the rustic outdoors. The gardens are charming and the proprietors, Bill and Cindy, are the perfect hosts who go out of their way to insure your stay is the best it can be. The breakfast was over the top fantastic. A real gem not to be missed!

There are not enough words of praise that I get give for Above The Sound. The amenities are wonderful. The owner, Bill, makes you feel at home with friendliness and the gardens are absolutely enchanting! I was traveling along and my original hotel accommodations were dangerous. My husband screened and promptly booked a reservation for me! I felt so welcomed and safe in this wonderful B&B gem! Thank you Bill for such a fabulous experience! How could I forget to mention - the bed was so comfortable!

The couple that own this B&B, Bill & Cindy, live on site. They are two of the nicest people you will ever meet, and they made our stay there exceptional. Bill has perfected the dishes he serves for breakfast. They are very high quality, and are time tested. We were a mere mile or so from Fort Lewis. Our son serves on that base for the US Army. So, convenience was great! While the house is fairly common structure, don't let that dissuade you - the garden and yard are absolutely incredible - a photographer's paradise. Bill and Cindy know the area very well, and offer great suggestions for activities, restaurants,... If you ask them. They were extremely accommodating for our busy schedule. We spent 9 days at this B&B. I would highly recommend it. Felt like a home away from home - really let us focus on visiting with our son, and relaxing on our vacation. Excellent value.

I will second the recent comment that Bill is the most friendly, accommodating host we have ever had at a property. He went out of his way to make sure that everything was o.k. for us. This place is a great find in Steilacoom--despite the touristy nature of the town, there isn't much of a choice for an overnight stay, and this place more than fits the bill. The main unit is a 2 bedroom suite downstairs. It's decorated in a northwoods style--lots of taxidermy around, so if you don't like that sort of thing, it might not be for you. But, we enjoyed having a nice, quiet space of our own, complete with a fireplace. He also rents a smaller room upstairs (not listed on the web site). That room is the size of a smallish hotel room, but it has the advantage of a deck with a view of the sound. One thing I really like about the place is that the owners give you a choice between a continental breakfast and a full gourmet breakfast. We chose the continental breakfast as we were visiting family in the area and didn't want to spend the time on a full breakfast in the morning. It was fine--they provided fruit, bagels, pastries, yogurt, and juice, and we brewed our own coffee. Definitely recommend this for a Ft. Lewis area stay. Nicer and more interesting than the chain hotels surrounding the base.

Bill was accommodating of every need and my stay couldn't have been more perfect. I was traveling for business and asked if Bill was able to have my (amazing) breakfast ready before 7:00 am. He was, it was amazing, and he even packed me leftovers that I ate for lunch. I felt like it was a mini retreat in an otherwise very work-oriented trip. Next time, I want to stay longer and be on vacation! This is the most comfortable B&B I've ever stayed in and Bill made this part of my trip so easy.

We have been to a number of B and B's... and I will tell you that Bill Enold is the most friendly, accommodating host we have ever had the privilege to meet... Incredibly helpful with all our questions and requests.. and what a cook !!! ...He served the most beautiful and delicious breakfasts ever .... all with the most relaxed and gentle service.||The gardens are not to be missed.. you can see all the care and love that was put into them .||We are so grateful to have shared a short time at this wonderful place in Steilacoom, Washington. It was the perfect place to gather with our family and our Grandson who is being deployed shortly... allowing us to have a private and wonderful time together...||Thank you Bill,we are forever grateful.. We found ourselves in need of a room for a last-minute one night stay in the Steilacoom area. We lucked out by getting a room at the Above the Sound B & B!|And I do mean lucked out! It was such a lovely place! I had read the reviews here and they were all quite enthusiastic so I felt fairly confident booking, especially since it was for just the one night. |Well, it is everything and more!|We absolutely loved our time there and look forward to returning. |As others have mentioned Bill, the very hospitable owner goes above and beyond in his helpfulness, attention to detail and all the little details that just set this place apart!|Oh. The breakfast. Fantastic. We are foodies and enjoy the wonderful offerings our hometown of Portland has available and this is hands down one of the yummiest breakfasts we have ever had.|The experience was delightful and we've been talking about it the whole way home!
