A Smiling Bear Bed and Breakfast is a perfect place to rest between adventures on Kodiak Island. The innkeeper Darlene is full of information and tales about the island, and serves wonderful breakfasts. She even made delicious gluten free waffles for me, and sent me with extras for the rest of our trip! Our room was spacious, inviting, clean, and comfortable, with a large renovated bathroom and a small kitchenette. I highly recommend this charming B&B.

A Smiling Bear Bed and Breakfast was an amazing place to stay. Darleen is a phenomenal host. She goes above and beyond to make sure her guests have the best possible time on Kodiak. Her home is beautiful and so inviting. The room we stayed in was extremely spacious, cozy, and comfortable. The breakfasts each morning were delicious. It is a quick walk down to the beach and has beautiful views from the house down to the beach. We hope to return in the future and stay here again.

We were bowled over by Darlene and her hospitality! She has a very comfortable home in a beautiful, quiet setting. Her dog, Tucker, is a joy and was so fun to have around. Darlene's breakfast will keep you satisfied all day -- she is the Muffin Queen! They were killer! The rooms we had were very comfortable and private. After hiking in rough terrain for a day, I used the whirlpool bath and felt great afterwards. Darlene went out of her way to make us feel at home. We were even able to use her washer/dryer, which helped a lot because we were there for a week. She also is an expert on anything Kodiak. We hope to stay there again next time we're in Kodiak!

My friend and I had the bear room. It has an ensuite bathroom and its own entrance. We were there to fish for a week. From the moment we met Darleene, she treated us like we were good friends. She was VERY accommodating. Every evening she would ask what time we wanted breakfast and would go over what she was planning on making. She was very willing and accommodated our wishes. One day we were leaving very early. She offered to package up the fresh home-made muffins. The breakfasts were outstanding. We really enjoyed the reindeer sausage but I still dream about those homemade muffins. One day we got back very late and had not eaten dinner yet. She whipped up some chili for us! She shared her local know-how about where and what gear to fish with. She even shared her fishing gear with us. I would highly recommend staying at Smiling Bear. You won’t find a more kind and sharing host than Darleene.

We recently stayed with Darlene that is the owner of A Smiling Bear Bed and Breakfast in Kodiak, Alaska. We are always so pleased with the top notch service she provides in her home. Darlene is very knowledgeable about Alaska, and is truly excellent at being a B and B hostesses. The food she makes, all homemade is fabulous, healthy and served beautifully. She makes us feel welcome in her home, and enjoys visiting with us, about our adventure each day with are there.

We couldn't ask for a better host! We truly enjoyed our trip and we also made a great friend. Darlene's personal experience, knowledge of the island and amazing stories, were all part of the highlights of our vacation.

The suites were comfortable and clean, the breakfasts were delicious, we even got invited back for dinner!

We fell in love with Kodiak island because of Darlene and her B&B, and her handsome king shepherd Tucker! If you ever go to Kodiak, Alaska, we strongly recommend Darlene's place for you to stay!

If you find yourself in Kodiak in need of a place to stay, you could do much worse than stay with Tucker (a wonderful German Shepard) and Darlene. The Smiling Bear is an oasis of tranquility, set in a wonderful neighborhood just outside of town. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped. Darlene will hold you spellbound for hours with Alaskan adventure stories, and Tucker will keep you company - though you may need to throw him a ball or two. ||||Bottomline: This is one of the best places we've ever stayed at.

Darlene, owner and resident is a fabulous host. I am staying in The Bear Suite. Immaculate, comfortable, and homey -- if you have a beautiful home! And, great cook, by the way. Darlene loves helping with ideas on things to see and do. Stay here, for sure, you'll want to come again. She told me about Sea Hawk air and bear viewing. Went yesterday. Best day of my life!! So Darlene was right-on about that. Such a pleasurable stay I'll hate to leave in a few days. You'll feel the same.
