Peterson Bay Lodge & Oyster Camp - Homer, Alaska

May 2005, shoulder season; spent 5 nights at this incredible location across the Bay from the Homer Spit! Accommodations were comfy, cozy and warm--and they were" Tentalows" canvas-roofed timber-framed cabins with sitting area, wonderfully warm king beds. Accessed by their own 44' Delta cabin cruiser, this lodge on a secluded bay oozed charm and warmth, with a gorgeous wharf-life view from the main eating, social area. Sea otters and seals are right in the Bay to entertain you while you watch the tide. ||There's even a private one-room lodge for guests separate from cabins and the main home. There's a separate bath house for showers, and quaint outhouses...but that shouldn't deter you, really! ||Gary & Debbie are the innkeepers plus charter captain, tide-pooling, clam-digging, chef and Real People without affectation. They have an eye on your personal comfort and doing what they can to make your stay great. Their staff is hand-picked and ready to serve. ||Did I mention the home-grown Kachemak Bay Oysters that they farm? And serve up graciously and generously. Their chef this summer is Robin (usually it's Gary himself) and Robin has Food-Network skills that will knock your socks off. ||Be healthy enough to walk their grounds, this side of the bay has a steep slope, but is landscaped naturally and with your comfort in mind. When you need to take a breather on the path, there's usually a place to do so. ||Really, I'm not related to them, and am amazed at this top-notch accomodation. ||P.S. Activities are plentiful: We caught Halibut, sea-kayaked, hiked and saw Bear...on a trip to Hallo Bay to do so. Don't be afraid to give this place a try!|
