It’s another stop offered by the cruise tours. The afternoon reminded me of being in The Boy Scouts and camping trips. Had a cookout, eating outdoors in the rain, the smell of an outdoor fireplace, hearing stories and listening to live music is what you’ll get.

There’s a gift shop heated by a wood burning furnace. It didn’t really provide much warmth and it smoked up the store, but demonstrated what life was like during the times of the Klondike Gold Rush.

Grilled salmon tasted quite good, with a nice smokey flavor. The cornbread was amazing with the glaze. It is like a buffet so you need to serve yourself. If you're going on the salmon bake shore excursion, you'll need to eat quick to get your money's worth.
Some people were helped with their plates when they were finished and others were not. It reminds me of an outdoor mess hall in the middle of the woods with a camp nearby.
The walking area in the buffet area are covered in peebles and it makes it dangerous for people who cannot walk well and does not accommodate scooters or walkers.
If you guy anything from the gift shop, be aware that it smells heavily of smoke and really transferred the smell to all nearby items including the whole cruise cabin if you don't seal it up in a plastic bag.

On one side of the street is the Liarsville Cookhouse where they hold the salmon "bake" which is actually grilled. A very nice guy named Bear directs the chow line. The meal consists of salad, baked beans, coleslaw, rice pilaf scalloped potatoes, barbecue chicken, and of course salmon. The dessert was corn bread or blue berry cake. The salmon was cooked too well for my taste, but the chicken was perfect.

The camp has recreated frontier tents and they look pretty authentic when compared to the gold rush era camps in California. There is a souvenir shop of course. They also have a four person show worth skits and songs. It's pretty enjoyable.

Excellent salmon bake, met the bus here to go back into skagway and stop at the haunted Red Onion Saloon. Look up the real reason Liarsville was named Liarsville- very interesting.

Liarsville was part of a larger shore excursion we booked. We were driven out to the gold rush trail camp in the woods. It was great to learn some of the local history and Klondike gold rush lore in an entertaining setting.

First, we were treated to a brief show in their “hippodrome,” a covered tent area with log bench seats. The show was fun and funny - reminded me of something you’d see at a Renaissance Fest, a little silly, a little bawdy but fine for families. I wish it was longer - I’m not sure if it would have been longer had we not been on an organized tour.

Next, we had the chance to pan for flakes of gold. We were all given pans with pre-selected dirt and the guarantee of finding a few flakes as we swirled our pans in the water at raised tables.

Our visit ended with a salmon feast and y’all, this was where Liarsville really shined. The meal was outstanding! There was a buffet area of side items and chicken. The salmon was cooked to perfection by two attentive chefs on an open grill and the brown sugar sauce they added to the salmon and cornbread was MOUTHWATERING! We went back for seconds, and would have had a third helping if we weren’t so stuffed!

There was also a young man playing live music on guitar who was really talented and that added to the great experience.

Cold and rainy, we got the true feel of what it must have been like for the gold rushers. John gave us some fun stories and the players were silly but as expected. Plus, we got real gold in our pans!

Salmon was excellent! Bear and the whole Liarsville cast were a treat and it was an experience seeing what life was like in this part of the world. Yes things are dusty dirty and cobwebs but this isn't Disneyland, and I'm totally okay with that. If you love history and seeing and hearing stories of times of past, this is a great place to check out.
