Boulder heights - McHenry, Maryland

I recently had the opportunity to stay at Boulder Heights, drawn in by its enticing description and the promise of a luxurious vacation experience. However, my stay was marred by several issues that were not in line with the property's online portrayal.

Pros:

The indoor pool and sauna, though not in the best condition, could be a highlight for families.
The kitchen is well-equipped and spacious, making meal preparations convenient.
The proximity to Wisp Resort and other attractions is a plus.

Cons:

Basic amenities were lacking. There was an insufficient supply of toilet paper, and no soap was provided in the bathrooms.
The property is outdated and in dire need of major renovations.
A deep cleaning seems to have been neglected for a long time. Spider webs were prevalent throughout the house, from bedrooms to light fixtures and windows.
The furniture is worn out to the point of being uncomfortable and unappealing. Many pieces were visibly dirty and stained.
Bed sheets were unclean with noticeable stains.
The indoor pool was in an unsatisfactory condition. It was dirty, filled with dead bugs, and the water was murky.
In conclusion, while Boulder Heights has the potential to offer a memorable vacation experience, the discrepancies between the online description and the actual state of the property were deeply disappointing. Future guests should be aware of these issues and perhaps consider other options or seek assurances that these concerns have been addressed.

Though the house itself is spacious and nice with some neat amenities (pool was nice even though tiles were coming off, hot tub even though the cover frame was broken, and sauna even though the temperature control was confusing and there were no instructions), we had several issues when staying at Boulder Heights with a party of 16.
There were crumbs and dirt on the countertops, floors, and tables and cobwebs on the doors and out-of-reach places. We found spiders in two of the beds.
Rental company issues: We couldn't get late checkout despite having someone with mobility issues in our party. We couldn't use the pool or hot tub for a few hours because they cleaned it during our stay (no warning). The hot tub water was greenish after this cleaning, and someone came back to clean it again on Sunday. People came to replace furniture at 10AM on Saturday with 20 minutes warning. Not sure why they couldn't have done those things either before we got there (vacant for at least two days before our stay according to the website) or in the 6-hour window between checkout and check-in after we left.
