Very cool and quaint place. An old schoolhouse converted to a hotel. Check in at the Principal's Office, and you'll stay in one of the subject rooms (Math, History, Chorus, etc.). High tech amenities, historical memorabilia, and the friendliest staff I have seen anywhere. A Billy Joel tribute band played in the gymnasium while we were there. They were great! We will be back, and I highly recommend it.

Aesthetically: A , functionally: D-||We came to White Sulphur Springs on a return trip home from Virginia. We saw the Bunker at Greenbrier, which we recommend. We enjoy boutique hotels as often as we can, but this stay had some issues. First though, the pros: great food and drinks in the Varsity Club. We had cocktails and dinner then brunch before we left. Wonderful atmosphere with well spaced tables. The staff were attentive and the bartender made great drinks. The vibe of the hotel is nice. Very sleek with lots of technology. The room is a bit small, but we were not bothered by it. The bed was comfy with plenty of pillows. We were able to stream a show from an iPad. |The cons: The walls are paper thin. Constant noise from neighbors to the point that my husband had to go next door at 12:30 a.m. to tell them it sounds like they are in the room with us. If your neighbor sets an alarm you will definitely get up too. The shower has no ledge or place to set shampoo, etc. My husband got sprayed with cold water just turning it on. |Overall, we would stay again, but would try a different room.

Very techy room with a bidet and automated curtains, however it’s very easy to figure out. Displays good history, while also having a modern feel. Great gym and a couple cool other rooms. Would definitely recommend, and the shops along the town are also fun as it’s in a convenient location.

Large, clean rooms, & a friendly staff.
The restaurant/bar is very nice. Great food selection, well prepared, and tasty.
The only glitch that we had was that we went for a short walk before we were to check out, came back about 30 minutes before the posted check out time, and they had decided that we had left without telling them. We had taken our luggage out but had left coats/travel mugs and a fan in the room. They stopped us at the front desk, said that the room had been cleaned, and handed us the mugs. We got a room key (ours had been deactivated) and went to the room to get the rest of our stuff (from the "cleaned " room).
You can tell I was a bit perturbed about them deciding to check us out early, but the place really is nice, and we enjoyed our stay.

Visited for an event in the ballroom. The staff was very attentive and the rooms were nicely appointed. I truly enjoyed the atmosphere and the catered dinner was lovely. Excited to visit for dinner and drinks soon!

Update: Returned for a birthday dinner at the Varsity Club. It did not disappoint! Fantastic food and atmosphere. We will be back!

2nd update: visited for dinner again about 2 months ago and was extremely disappointed in the quality of food and service. Menu change and/or chef change recently left us sadly underwhelmed and questioning a future return for dining.

This hotel is modern and minimalist at the same time, with little carpet-a bonus. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the sheets crisp. There were a few quirks-we were in a junior suite which we thought would have had a mini fridge -we found out from the restaurant you can to request one. Making it standard would be helpful. None of the lights work independently - it is an all one or off situation. Bedside lamps that work independently for each person are needed.All rooms and bathrooms are ADA compliant but the shower was done backwards. It is basically the highest point in the bathroom so all the water runs out and onto the floor near the sink. Overall we truly enjoyed our time. It was peaceful and a great place to recharge.

Beautiful and clean, friendly service. Great restaurant, but not open for breakfast. No coffee in room, no coffee downstairs after 10:00 a.m. We were sent to local restaurant for late breakfast but many businesses are closed on Monday, so we drove to next town for breakfast. Same story for dinner on Mon night. (The in house Varsity Club is open Mon nights.)||No closet space, just a couple shelves on wall with a couple hangers. Poorly designed shower sprayed water out of shower space. Room was very small. Adequate lighting, once you read the instructions on how to turn them on and off on the wall panel, which also has buttons for the curtains. Good luck remembering that in the morning! ||I recommend eating there!

First off, the property is beautiful. The overall attention to detail is outstanding. They preserved the history of the school in an amazing way. Also, the ADA features consistent and extremely thought out.

What wasn’t thought out were the other amenities that one would expect in a room. There was one large overhead light that felt extremely surgical. No lamps or bedside lighting. Even the large overhead is off, so is the entryway light. There is also no seating, no clothes storage, no safe and no mini fridge.

The smart features for the room were very advance and nice, but did not make up the lack of basic amenities throughout.
