Our third year here. The staff is so lovely. Service is awesome; heartfelt, genuine, fast, thoughtful. It's peaceful here. A true mix of rustic and modern with some quirks (shower stalls aren't the most comfortable). Easter menu was changed last minute but that happens. Food was fresh, some items like salads on Easter were plated too early. Overall, a solid 4 stars. Some room for improvement for the pricing. But a really lovely place, and we say thank you!!!

I loved this little getaway from the city. The grounds were clean, it was easy to get to and the check in staff were very nice. It was our anniversary weekend and we even got a little gift left in our room. We had drinks in the Rathskellar, breakfast in the brewery, dinner in the bar area and brunch in the Potomac room. The food and drinks we fresh and tasted great. The room was large as we were in a cottage and not the "hotel" section. The only problem was the carpet had some stains, everything else was clean. There was a gnat issue but not the hotels fault. They were flying around everywhere. It was too early for the pool but I would go back when it is warmer to give it a try. Very nice, family operated inn that is comfy and quiet.

We stayed in one of the chalets for our anniversary getaway. Overall, the room was nicely appointed and comfortable, but the cleanliness left something to be desired. While it looked clean at first glance, we found dust, hair, and even an old bandaid behind one of the nightstands—something more expected from a Motel 6 than a higher-end retreat.

The view from the balcony was absolutely spectacular, but the experience was marred by dirty outdoor furniture and a surprising number of bumble bees, which made relaxing outside more of a nuisance than a pleasure. Additionally, the railing had some loose boards that felt a bit unsafe. The stairway leading from the parking lot to our room was also quite dirty. Additionally the outside light on the balcony could not be turned off and the blinds only make it so dark in the room. Would recommend a timer on these lights.

That said, we appreciated the overall layout of the room, especially the extra sink outside the bathroom. It made it easier to get ready while my husband showered. It would be helpful, though, to have an extra trash can and a small bar of soap in that area—I ended up doing my makeup out there and had no easy way to wash my hands or toss cotton swabs.

Restaurant:
We found the restaurant overpriced and the food mediocre. The bread served before dinner was dry and disappointing, though the seasoned butter was a nice touch. A crusty German-style bread would have been a much better option.

My husband ordered the Jägerschnitzel, which was a letdown—small, bland, and lacking in texture. However, the spätzle, red cabbage, and asparagus were good. I had the pistachio crusted cod, which had a nice texture but no flavor until I seasoned it myself. Also, I couldn’t detect any pistachios. On the bright side, the root vegetables, mushrooms, and farro on the side were excellent.

Dessert was the highlight of the meal. We shared the German chocolate cake and the Bavarian nutball, and both were delicious.

Final Thoughts:
We came here for a special occasion and did enjoy parts of our stay. We’d return for the accommodations (with some hope for better housekeeping), but we’d likely skip the restaurant next time.

Also, the breakfast could be more “German” with small tweaks. If management would like some tips from an actual German, I’m available 😉

Had the steak frites and prime rib. It was amazing, couldn’t stop eating, fell into a food coma. Last time I ate here, I was really disappointed in the quality of the food. This experience was a game changer thanks to our new Chef, Clem. Will be back.

Location is great near Shepherd University that is about it. Paid for a Junior Suite over $500 per night. Checked into the room and the smell was unbearable. Extreme detergent/bleach smell. We went to front desk to see if maybe there was another option. Front desk very cold and not willing to help or even offer suggestion to remedy. Just said air it out….Opened every door/window in the room but smell was super strong. There was already a dehumidifier in the room so obviously a know issue. Would really consider other options before booking at Bavarian!!!!

This location is truly amazing and absolutely a gem. We came here to enjoy a drink and it was a great experience. They had a piano bar in the basement and it was cozy and themed and just all around a cool environment. We will definitely be returning again in the future to explore more things this property has to offer!

Excellent place for fine dining or just to grab an appetizer and cocktail! I can personally vouch for their old fashions. I simply have yet to have another like theirs anywhere in and out of the country.
Enjoy a relaxing evening outside by the fire as well on the weekends. Whatever your reasoning for coming here. You will not be disappointed!
