Rooms were spotless clean. The information house restaurant has an excellent view of the river and is very cost effective . Pricing seems a bit high ( Canyon view room- $170), but maybe it was because it was Saturday night.
The area is beautiful, with lots of hiking and sightseeing.

THEY MADE THIS HOME TOWN BOY PROUD
Our Band Had A Venue to Play in Wva. And a photoshoot set for Thurmond Wva. Since I was raised in that area before leaving in the 80s, I wanted to show off my Hometown area to the other Band members , including my wife. All being from Ohio.
So we booked 2 Canyon View Rooms at Hawks Nest Lodge 4-5-25, That included a few extra Activities. While there was a small issue with a simple miscommunication for the activities , at NOT anyone's Fault Really, The Whole Staff Joined Forces and treated our Whole Band like Royalty for our Complete Stay. I can not say enough good things about the Staff at this Lodge. Even the park Ranger stopped several times and talked to us and gave us some history of the park and just was down home friendly to us all. We felt we had made several new friends by the time we checked out. The Rooms were clean and sitting out on the balcony at night, listening to the river below, was wonderful. Food in The Restaurant was delicious.
Out Of a 5 star rating the staff and Lodge gets 15 stars from us.

Beautiful place! Everything was clean. The employees were all super nice and helpful. The breakfast was really good. And the view were the best part! Only part i didn't like was our room didn't have a mini fridge.

Beautiful place, friendly staff and locals. She hides her age decently well. Also they're replacing the entire aerial tram ride.

My husband and I would stay at Hawks nest State Park Lodge again if we pass through the area. Having said that, we like the quieter scene and down the road Adventures on the Gorge has a lot going on: restaurants, activities, and different lodging options.

Note: that the state park tram is not operating this year and may not be available even into next season.

However, the Hawks Nest State Park offers access to the jet boat from the dam up to the gorge bridge was a fun, short excursion and the boat driver, Rick, is a wonderful character in and of himself.

My husband chose a corner room that had a wonderful restful view of the forest and the gorge. I will tell you that some of the rooms are harder to access and there is no elevator. It requires going up and down an interior concrete stairway. (There is no elevator access for most of the room floors this is why I took one star away as we did have to change rooms after our second night).

We only enjoyed the included breakfast that came with the stay. Very basic but yet it covered all the bases. I particularly enjoyed the West Virginia blend coffee that was supplied in the room, coffee at breakfast was also to my liking.

All personnel were genuinely friendly and accommodated our request. We stayed three nights.

As someone from a mostly flat state, it was an adventure in and of itself driving up to the Hawks Nest Lodge, but absolutely worth it.

Our room had a gorge-ous view (haha) and I loved that the sliding glass door to the balcony had a screen to allow fresh air overnight. It was so peaceful to sit on the balcony and watch the hawks circle above and the tiny lizards sunning themselves on the brick walls.

The room itself was great for just the two of us. The hotel was quiet and comfortable, and the free breakfast buffet was a pleasant surprise. This was a quick stay as we were headed to see family, but it was so welcoming that I hope to return again someday!

Thought twice about leaving a good review, want to keep to myself so I can get a room. Stayed in a Canyon view room for one night. I visit New River Gorge often and there is a lack of nice accommodations in the area. Gave this a try for the price and glad I did. This is only 20 minutes from the bridge visitors center off of RT 60. It is an old place but well maintained and clean. I had a canyon view room, wish they had the glass railing to not obscure the views. Rooms are on the smaller size, especially the bathroom area. Onsite restaurant is a big plus, no other meal options close. Had dinner which was good. The included breakfast buffet was ok, typical fair, waffle machine, "eggs", sausage. Pool looked clean but was closed. Also a gift shop onsite. Staff and the desk and restaurant were friendly and attentive. WIFI worked fine Can't wait for the tram to be installed and my next visit.

Definitely stay in a canyon-view room. That view every morning and evening was a perfect bookend for each day. The rooms are smaller than an average hotel room but there is great storage, including a stack of shelves that each fit a carry-on sized bag, so our family of 4 fit perfectly.||Breakfast is free for folks staying here, but the coffee and eggs are pretty bad. No worries though -- Gran Robbie is a wonderful cafe about a minute down the road. We supplemented our mornings with some coffee/breakfast runs and to-go orders that were memorably delicious!
