We researched this B&B on TripAdvisor and were prepared for some of the potential kinks mentioned by other reviewers. After staying there, we really liked the place. It's quaint and oldish but didn't feel run down to us at all. It's close to the island's busiest road (hardly a major highway :)) and has a limited water view, but it's within a short hike from a nice large park and access to the water .And being able to walk to an espresso stand and a couple of shops/galleries in town (Burton) makes up for it. The B&B doesn't have an extensive staff (at least not during the off-season), so you have to align your plans with their check-in times and process -- but on the laid-back island like Vashon it didn't seem like an issue to us. The owner, Troy, was very helpful and hospitable. The breakfast was very good and the restaurant is a pleasant space. We used a LivingSocial deal and didn't feel like we'd overpaid at all. The inn includes a lot of local touches into their package: tea from a local tea shop, local flowers, a daily pass to the Vashon Athletic club, a coupon for a (very good) local massage -- and we felt that this was a great deal. A bottle of wine was also included and our only nitpick was that it wasn't a local wine but a custom-label small-batch bottle from elsewhere in Washington State... not that big a deal at all. Oh, and they did have a hair dryer in our room and cable channels on TV, so it seems like the owners are listening to the feedback. All in all, we had a pleasant stay.

We spent a week in two and a half bedroom house that Troy and Marie have for rent, we didn't stay at the Inn itself. The house is called Captain's Quarters and you can find it on their website. We had a great time. It's beautifully located right across from the marina in Burton, with a priceless view from the huge front deck. The house is a cute cottage and older, so if you want stainless steel appliances don't rent it. But it worked great for our family of five ranging in age from 10 to 82: two bathrooms downstairs, room to sleep five to six in different combinations, a full kitchen, TV and wireless, and a housekeeper to clean it once during the week: all for the price of a hotel room in Seattle. Staying on Vashon and traveling into town by ferry or water taxi is a very different Seattle experience than staying downtown. You have easy access to the beaches, parks, independent stores and restaurants, farms and vineyards on Vashon that make th island special and are about a 15 min drive to the ferry docks. The ferry ride itself is about 20 min. Would gladly do this again.

I got to tell ya this is one of the nicest finds on Vashon. We've stayed in other places when visiting the island, but was always looking for something better. The Quartermaster Inn is a great little place that accommodated our needs. When staying at the Inn you have a few choices of rooms depending on family size and your needs, I choose the marina suites and was not disappointed. The room came with a full kitchen, the bed was comfortable, a sliding door takes you out to a deck with a beautiful view of the marina bay. Just a short two minute walk from the Inn you can get your morning coffee fix and pastry. Its one of the best coffee shacks on the island. My recommendation look no further than the Quartermaster Inn.

After reading the reviews, I was afraid of what this week end would be like. We had a wonderful week end. We stayed in the Outer quartermaster room and it was a fine room. We used the living social coupon that was given to us for Christmas from our children. The food for dinner and breakfast was excellent. Troy and Marie are the hosts and made our stay very welcoming, Thanks you two...:)|| The Island itself kept us busy, walking on the beaches which were full of agates and whole shells that we don't see that often in our part of the coast. I wish I had known about the wolf sanctuary on the island as you need advance reservation to see it. You only pay one way for the ferry as you go and return is included in that fee. Hope you find this helpful as it is a relaxing place to go.....

This was a Christmas gift from my other half and I didn't have a lot of time to spend so we found this place not far for us to enjoy. The room was very comfortable and with a little view of the bay. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. We enjoyed the owner and other guest. This place is more of a layed back and not alot to do unless you drove to town or a near by park. But if you just wanted a cozy romantic stay...this is perfect. This is a weathered seaside comfortable clean place with personality. Not some modern stiff boring place that I see some prefer in reading other reviews. We do alot of traveling all over the world and in different cultures you will pay a big price for what they feel is top. It is all in how you like to see the world and the adventures in the experience.

We just returned from a stay at the Marina property under the auspices of the Quartermaster Inn, but located at the Burton Marina. It's not a B&B, it's just a lodging. But what a lovely find! The suite is clean, spacious, tastefully decorated, airy, and has a well equipped small kitchen. It looks out onto a mirror-calm bay. The only noises we heard were occasional calls of water birds. It's within easy walking distance of a coffee stand and a small grocery store. Troy, the owner, is charming and responsive. I almost hate to post this review because we plan to return and we don't want to find out it is booked up!

On the plus side the breakfast was tasty. Your comfort seems directly tied to which room you are in. The rooms at either end of the hallway are larger and have better beds. The small rooms in the middle don't have the same amenities. Our bed was one of the most uncomfortable we have ever "slept" in, not much sleeping because of all the tossing and turning. Down the hall other guests were enjoying a sleep number mattress. Of course they had shampoo and a hair dryer in their room too.

No kidding. The above title is the promo logo pushed by the local merchants selling bumper stickers and coffee cups. What we thought was a cozy quaint island turned out to be a place that could use a good cleanup. Evidently once the junk hits the island, it stays there. Not sure why people can't at least try to hide the mess. No corporate America here either unless the very nice and clean Subway sandwich shop counts. Guess the folks like it that way.||The Quartermaster Inn's outside appearance didn't do it any favors. Mold covering the building was our first sight followed by the grounds that never got a fall cleanup. The back alley parking area looked like what it was, a neglected back alley. Once inside, the place had a cozy appeal. Walls in the lobby and restaurant area were freshly painted with some good artwork. Our room had an antique feel but the carpet was stained and it needed a new armoire (old college dorm type - broken doors, horrrible TV stand, and very dusty). The chairs and bed weren't comfortable either. Sheets were old with bleach stains on the pillow slip too. The food was very good along with the evening ambiance and the wait staff friendly including the owners pitbull. One point of note is we that we overheard the inn was closing in March and the crew was going separate ways.||Burton Coffee lady next door made a great latte but she was on island time and in no hurry while she gabbed with another local. We made it to the ferry terminal to go home with minutes to spare.||Not really our cup of tea and not much to do for us on the weird island of Vashon so I think we will do our thing elsewhere next time.
