Thornewood Castle is magical! The rooms and private baths are lux! Quiet, private with great amenities. There's no room service but you can bring food or have it delivered. Each room has a mini-fridge and a microwave. The castle and grounds are full of beautiful and interesting art pieces and rich history. We stayed in the Rose Red room. Our bed was huge and super-comfy. Down the hall of mirrors was a game room and a theater room. Many windows throughout are adorned with 13th and 14th century stained glass pieces from English churches. The castle doesn't have an elevator but the original, 15th century staircase is worth the walk. A stay at Thornewood Castle is a singular experience!

I have stayed here twice. My first day in October of 2020 was absolutely amazing. But to be fair it was the end of 2020 no one else was in the castle but My husband and I. There was very little that could mess it up at that point.

Based on that amazing experience I booked several rooms, two in the castle and the condo, for a friend's birthday party. A month after booking I was told that there was going to be a private event in the castle that night so some of the grounds maybe temporarily off limits. What we weren't told was that what they meant was we don't want you to walk through the entryway of the castle at all for several hours while there's a wedding reception going on. We were basically asked to stay in our rooms. We booked the castle for the birthday party because we thought it would be fun to have the backdrop and the grounds to hang out on, plus the theater and the game room. Staff did not care at all what we thought or wanted or needed it was all about the wedding party. If the wedding party didn't rent the whole place out that's their fault and there's no reason we should have been shunned to our rooms like black sheep

I was in a wedding party for a November wedding here and stayed in the sewing room! I loved this experience so much I’m considering having my wedding here in the future, and I live in Arizona!

I loved that every room had their own Keurig machine, snacks, and even a mini fridge stocked with drinks!

I took a bath in the Victorian tub and was amazed because I’ve never been in a tub that large before it felt like a pool.

The whole weekend was magical and I would totally come back and stay a full week.

The staff was lovely and yet we’re also inconspicuous, which added to the allure and magic of the weekend.

we weren’t notified that there would be a wedding until we checked in. there should be a discount if you book before a wedding does, as it really changes the entire experience. it made us feel awkward / confined to our room. someone from the wedding party also tried to walk into our room. it’s a beautiful castle but not being notified in advance + being asked to avoid the wedding party made it feel like we’d been ripped off.

Untrustworthy Management and Zero Flexibility – Beware!

I recently encountered some of the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced at this hotel, and I never even made it through the door. Due to severe weather, my flights were canceled, leaving me stranded and unable to travel. Every other business involved in my trip—airline, rental car company, and even another hotel—understood the circumstances and offered full refunds. But not this place.

When I called to either reschedule or cancel my stay, I was met with nothing but scripted responses about "policy" and an outright refusal to make any reasonable accommodation. I explained that the situation was beyond my control, but they hid behind their rigid self-imposed rules, showing absolutely no understanding or flexibility. It became clear that they were more interested in squeezing out every possible dollar than providing even a shred of decent service.

I wasn’t asking for a favor—I was asking for basic decency in a situation where I had no control. Every other company involved in my trip understood that. This inn, however, saw it as an opportunity to make a buck.

What makes this even more ridiculous? My reservation was for a Tuesday in February—hardly peak season, with plenty of availability on their website. Yet instead of demonstrating even the slightest goodwill, they chose to nickel-and-dime a stranded traveler. That kind of approach says everything about their priorities: profit over people.

After this experience, I looked up other reviews, and it’s clear this isn’t a one-time issue—it’s a pattern. Time and time again, guests describe inflexible policies, unhelpful staff, and management that refuses to take responsibility for basic hospitality. This isn’t just bad luck; this is how they do business—by gouging customers and calling it “policy.”

The way this establishment operates is a masterclass in how to alienate customers, destroy goodwill, and ensure no one ever recommends them. If you want to see how not to run a business, look no further. I don’t care if this inn is a castle, their customer service is shameful. Hospitality should mean something, and this place has made it clear that they have no interest in it.

Book elsewhere unless you want to be treated with the same level of indifference and greed.

Our stay was magical! The staff and room were fantastic, as were the rest of the castle and grounds. We were allowed to wander and hang out in the great hall and some of the other areas of the castle. We can't wait to come back and stay again!

Wow. Son rents a room for their wedding night
Cold and windy outside so thought it best nice if we could just take some quick family photos ro commemorate the occasion. Nope.. we were told by a staff member "You can not take pictures and You're welcome to leave" So rude

Unfortunately, we had a terrible experience overall with this establishment. Went recently for our anniversary. We were told there would be a wedding and "some" of the grounds wouldn't be accessible, and the castle wouldn't "be as quiet" as it usually is. This was an understatement - the music was so incredibly loud we could barely hear each other talk in our room. We had to walk through the dance floor to get our door dash from the front door. We could not go downstairs at all. Our room was freezing cold and if you turned on the hair dryer it blew the breaker, which we were not told. Had to wait for a guy to come fix it. Could not walk into the bathroom without feet freezing on the tile. We have tried 4 times to get in touch via email and phone with the staff after our stay, but no response. Although they were very responsive PRIOR to our visit. Would never recommend this place and we are highly disappointed.
