I just returned from a wonderful trip to Orcas Island where I stayed at the Blackberry Beach Garden Cabin in Olga. The cabin was small but quaint and perfect for a quiet getaway. The experience exceeded my expectations. The bed was especially comfortable, and the entire cabin was clean and well stocked. Carol Jo provided many amenities. There were board games, books and magazines, a DVD player and a selection of movies, and a stereo with several CDs. When not out exploring the island there was plenty to do while relaxing in the cabin. The kitchen was stocked with dishes, cookware, and kitchen gadgets such as a microwave, toaster, coffee maker, electric kettle, and coffee grinder. My cell service was very limited on the island, but the wifi at the cabin worked great and I was able to use the internet and stream movies on my devices. The garden yard was lovely and there's a path down to the small beach. I could see a bit of the ocean from the porch of the cabin and enjoyed the view and pleasant weather with a glass of wine. ||Carol Jo was a great host, she was so friendly and helpful, and she was always available without being intrusive. She provided suggestions for dining, shopping, and a hike on the nearby Coho Preserve Trail - a beautiful path through the trees alongside a creek. Also nearby is Buck Bay Shellfish Farm, which has the most delicious fresh seafood. I returned more than once for dinner and enjoyed raw oysters with their unique sauce, calamari, clam chowder, and steamed clams, along with some wonderful wines made on Orcas Island. Moran State Park with all the amazing hiking trails and Mount Constitution is a short drive from Olga, but honestly nothing is very far away on Orcas Island and many times I’d pop into Eastsound to pick up a few groceries or some coffee. I highly recommend the coffee bar inside Darvill’s Bookstore in Eastsound. The coffee was delicious and the barista was cheerful.||Overall I loved the remoteness of Olga and the Blackberry Beach Cabins. It made for a peaceful and relaxing getaway. If I find myself on Orcas Island in the future I’d love to stay in the Garden Cabin again.|

This was our second time staying at Blackberry Beach. We honeymooned here two years ago and now we’re back for an anniversary weekend trip. We stayed in the waterfront cabin both times. We love it here! It’s so peaceful and cozy and has private beach access and a perfect view of the San Juans out the bedroom and living room windows. Even in the off season, it’s so lovely. Carol Jo is so sweet and a wonderful host! East Sound is about 20 minutes away with lots of cute shops and places to eat. Blackberry Beach is a beautiful, rustic getaway and a great place to relax and disconnect for awhile. We can’t wait til we can come back to stay here again!

My husband and I loved the garden cabin at Blackberry beach. It was private, quiet, conveniently located, and reasonably priced (for the San Juans). This is not a hotel, so it is not for everyone, but it was perfect for us. The entry area/breezway is a little messy, but the cabin itself is great. We found it clean and comfortable, and we really appreciated having a kitchen. We also ended up watching a couple of movies from their collection. Although the garden cabin does not have a waterview, it has a nice little patio which has a partial waterview and a pretty garden --- we ate all our meals out there. If we can afford to splurge next time, we would try to stay in the waterfront cabin, but we were on a tight budget this time. ||||Olga was a good location for us because we spent a lot of time hiking in Moran State Park. We also kayaked at Obstruction pass and ate at the Doe Bay cafe one night, and those are both reasonably close to Olga. If you like privacy and quiet and are not overly fussy, then blackberry beach is perfect (although you are in close proximity to the people in the other cabin, so you are dependent on them being quiet too --- this was not a problem for us).

We absolutely loved the Garden Cottage at Blackberry Beach. Carol Jo was wonderful and helpful. There were many "extra touches" that we noticed & appreciated...things like fresh coffee beans with a coffee grinder, games & twinkly lights that made the place look magical. The cabin was very clean.||||Our favorite thing was walking out onto the long dock in the early mornings & evenings. It was a beautiful & peaceful place to watch the sunrise and the sunset!||||The location is lovely, private & quiet with a beautiful view of the water, and just a 5 minute drive to Moran State Park. We spent a day hiking there and then a beautiful sunset from Mt Constitution.||||Another day we enjoyed a morning ferry to Friday Harbor, went on a whale-watching boat ride, and were back on Orcas for a great dinner in Eastsound. ||||Carol Jo was available if needed, but never intruded. A great host!||||If we ever had an opportunity to come to the San Juans again, we'd definitely stay at Blackberry Beach.

The beach front cabin in this compound is the best option. It has a view of Shaw island and the inner-island waterway from every room and the hot tub. The hedge is overgrown, but that provides for a very private yard a view of lush blackberry bushes attended by hummingbirds and wren. The kitchen is well set up, and there is a small weber grill for full meal prep so you can stay in at night and not miss a beat of the nature scene. The beach access just off the tiny cabin yard gets you under the Olga pier- this area is a great treasure trove of shells, glass, pottery sherds, wood and wildlife watching: heron, eagle, kingfisher, gulls, geese, tern, deer all seen in just one hour. Within a 10 minute stroll is a quaint Catkins cafe and crafts gallery, and there are other artists galleries along the way. Carol-Jo and Patrick, the owners, were very gracious and friendly.

We just stayed three nights in the Garden Cottage after the lodging we had reserved on the beach (Judd Cove) fell through at the last minute. Fortunately, Carol Jo had room at her place, so we stayed there. Granted, we were disappointed by not having a beach front place, but we were glad to have somewhere to stay. ||The cabin is very cute, and quite small, but that is fine. Everything was clean enough, but it does have a rather musty smell to it in the bedroom/bathroom. Unfortunately, this is one of my pet peeves. It was nice to have the kitchenette at hand, and there was a bbq for our use, but I had to figure out how to get the briquettes going without lighter fluid, so that was a challenge. ||Carol Jo was very friendly and unobtrusive, so that was also a plus. Olga, in general, is very laid back and unassuming. If you are a resort person, you'd probably be better off in Eastsound.

We found this place the week before our trip. Carol, the owner, worked with us on payment as she doesn't take credit. Not a big deal though.||||Cabin is well appointed. Has one large room for the livingroom & kitchen. Kitchen has everything we needed for cooking our own meals. Has a little dining area with a great view. Views from every window are great. We could hear the wave lapping up against the rocks at night, which was nice. Bathroom and bedroom are a little tight, but it's a small cabin, so that's to be expected :). There's a SMALL flatscreen TV and DVD player and stereo. It looks like there is Wifi, but we didn't ask about connecting as our cell coverage was fine. No cable for TV viewing. Carol has a small selection of movies to watch, which we picked a couple. We found some more to rent at the Chevron station in Eastsound. ||||The town of Olga is nice and quaint. A few resident deer are there each morning and evening snacking on the grass & apple trees. || ||It's only about 18 miles from the Ferry Dock to the cabin. So there's not much driving to get where you want to go on Orcas. Moran State Park is close. Lot's of great trails to walk. Don't forget your Discover Pass.

It had been 16 years since we'd been in the islands, and were looking forward to a great isolated weekend. Waterfront cabin was "OK" at best. Not worth $130 a night that's for sure. We never actually met Carol Jo, but she was a great communicator and left us alone for the weekend which was really great. The cabin is cute, in a great location, has a wonderful view and all that, but the spider webs hanging from the ceiling and layer of dust were unwelcome downers, the view from the hot tub was mostly obscured by the mass of 6' high overgrown tangles and brambles. There weren't any glasses to drink from other than toddler size plastic, wine glasses or coffee mugs? Just the general disorganized, messy feel wasn't our style at all! Needs a full blown ceiling to floor cleaning of the cabin and it's soft surfaces like blankets and draperies, and the main house/yard and connecting breezeway look like a garage sale in progress.
