Hotel Planter - La Conner, Washington

We stayed at The Hotel Planter, a restored historic hotel, for two nights in the middle of April – peak Tulip Festival time. It is at one end of the charming main street in La Connor. The waterfront is right behind the shops and restaurants across the street. There are restaurants, galleries and a nice mix of shops along the street. Two excellent museums are within walking distance. Street parking is free and unlimited in terms of time, but finding an open space can be difficult during the day. After 5 PM there were always lots of spaces available. There are excellent restaurants in the blocks close to the hotel.| |Regarding our stay, the hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. Bottled water was provided at no charge. Our room had no reading lamp and the lighting was dim. We asked for a lamp, and it was promptly provided. The downsides of the hotel all have to do with comfort. We stayed in the one room that has two beds (twin). The room was very stuffy and hot. The hotel is transparent about the lack of air conditioning on its website and does provide a ceiling fan and floor fan in every room. In spite of the fans, the cool temperatures outside and the fact that we could open the window, the room was uncomfortably hot. In addition, the beds were too soft. The other thing that made sleep difficult was the lack of darkness in the room. The window over the door to the hall, the placement of the curtain over the window and the glare of several bright LED lights on electronic devises made sleep difficult. The bathroom is old-fashioned which fits with the style and age of the hotel. The shower was small but had excellent water pressure. The toilet was tiny, low to the ground and set in an alcove. If you have a hard time getting up due to arthritis or another condition, this room would not be for you. This would also apply if you have trouble navigating stairs as all the rooms are at the top of a large staircase.| |Even if you choose not to stay at the hotel, I recommend stopping by the see the stained-glass window above the main stairs and the amazing, otherworldly floor lamp in the reception area.| |It may well be that other rooms in the hotel are more comfortable. Our room faced the back of the building. Rooms facing the front, and therefore the water, could be cooler. The Hotel Planter may be perfect for many guests but it was not for us.

I really enjoyed my little getaway at Hotel Planter. The building is definitely historic and you get the full charm of that vintage feeling.

Everything was very clean and looked well cared for, which is not always the case with historic buildings. The bed was very tall (I am 5’10 for reference) but comfy. More than enough pillows as well and they were not old or sunken in.

My only issue is that when I arrived the room was freezing. The heat was on but not very high, so I turned it up full blast, along with the one in the bathroom. It took almost two hours for it to heat up to a comfortable temperature. But after, I had no issues. I would recommend the staff turn the heater on higher/sooner before guests arrive.

There is no hotel parking so you do have to park on the street. There is a lot on the water right next to the building but it is expensive so I avoided it. I had to circle 3 times after going out on a Saturday afternoon before I could find a space again to go back to my room. Just something to be aware of.

I recommend this hotel and do plan on returning in the future.

What a beautiful hotel! Our room, and the rest of it, was spotless. The bed was super comfortable and the space itself was delightful. Also, the location is perfect for being right in the midst of all the fun things La Conner has to offer in its sweet downtown.
The staff was helpful and very friendly.
This really is a unique and lovely historical hotel that's been updated in all the right ways to make it oerfectly comfortable.

Great location to watch the fireworks for new year's and the channel. Rooms are well equipped. Beds are very comfortable. Quiet location. Very walkable to several restaurants and shops

An old hotel in the heart of downtown LaConner. The furniture in the room as old as the building itself. Warm and inviting. Had the room with the jacuzzi.

An older hotel, with clean rooms, comfortable beds, decent showers, nice towels and friendly staff. Room #8 has a water view, though with a large group I saw other rooms have quite a bit of diversity. Some face the courtyard, some on the side and some the Swinomish Channel and at least one having an ornate headboard. There is no AC, so it can get very warm in an afternoon sun facing room in summer, so the ceiling fan helped. Several good places to eat close by and a good bakery across the street. A Keurig machine is in the common area with lots of free coffee choices and tasty cookie snacks.

We were desperate to find a room with two beds in La Conner during the annual Bird Festival as we were booking pretty late. We were happy to find a reasonable rate AND two twins at the Hotel Planter. Are expectaations were pretty low as we saw it was a very old hotel (and only had 12 rooms!) Expecations were blown out the window! it was lovely. Patrick, at the front desk, was so accommodating and working very hard to run the whole place it seems. We were impressed. Bedding was wonderful, and the room provided everything we needed. AND, it is right downtown, across from the amazing Calico Cupboard restaurant. We'll definitely be back!

The hotel is ran by the ever so gracious Patrick, who went above and beyond to ensure our comfort during our stay. When a quiet couples getaway turned into a family affair with the addition of our 2 kids plus one resulted in the need for additional accdomodations, Patrick swiftly arranged for an additional room sitting across the hall from our own, and even acquired an extra trundle bed, ensuring everyone had a restful and comfortable night's sleep. Moreover, he thoughtfully relocated us to a quieter area of the hotel to minimize any disruption for other guests and allowing us the sense of extra security.

One of the highlights of our stay was discovering the charming courtyard at the center of the hotel. Complete with a cozy cabana, it provided the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the tranquil ambiance.
Surrounding the hotel, a plethora of delightful shops awaited exploration, adding to the allure of this idyllic retreat.
