This place isn't the closest to many places you might want to stay on the island, but if you're looking to be in Oak Harbor or the general area, it's perfect. The rooms are dated, and the aesthetic is old-hotel, but the value is still there. It's niche and sweet enough to make any island visit a good memory. In a pinch, never overlook it. I have been going here since I was a small child with family and will return when the need arises. The mill restaurant next door is also good.

Very kitschy, but it is so warm and welcoming in the main office area, only helped by the woman who checked me in. She was fantastic and went over the rules and things to know. She also let me know house keeping was available if I needed it at any point during the stay.

We opted to eat at the mill restaurant just on the other side of the parking lot and it’s also some amazing food with decor just like the hotel.

The room was nice. The bathroom had been updated and everything was clean. They put extra coffee pods in the basket. The beds are not attached to the wall, so they roll a little bit for those that toss and turn in the night.

Overall, a pleasant stay and more affordable than any other hotel in oak harbor during the holiday.

If you like the smell of mold, your feet sticking to a filthy floor and getting treated rudely by staff you must stay here.

See photos of dust balls on light fixtures and vents, cracked walls, cracked tiles, carpet stains. The worst was when we took a washcloth and gently swiped it over the carpet a few times- it turned black. Or maybe the questionable leftover pubes by the bath tub? It’s frankly a toss up. No wonder we woke up congested.

The jetted tub was a nice feature and we reserved the upgraded room for it. But, you had to refill it five times to wait for the water heater to reheat and put out warm water. So plan for 75 minutes to set up your relaxing bath.

We had cancelled our refundable reservation from Expedia because the gentleman at the front desk told us on the phone they were more flexible with cancellations and had better rates. We could not make it the first night but needed an hour before check-in to change for a wedding so we called the front desk again and a nice lady told us not to cancel until the day of in case our plans changed, and that they were flexible since we booked through them.

Another nice young man we called at the front desk to notify we would not be arriving until the 2nd day told us “no problem” we would be charged for one night and we were good to check-in early to change.

Upon check-in we noticed we were charged for both nights and the rude staff smirked and told us that was not the hotel’s policy and he didn’t know why those people would say that since they had worked there a long time.

It would have been ok if he had just explained it kindly instead of making us feel stupid. He then cut off questions about check out and curtly said he would get to that after signing and initialing that we understood the rules and we would “owe him $95 if we lost his keys.”

At checkout it was a pleasant gentlemen who said regardless of the policy, it should have been honored and taken care of…he didn’t do it either.

Want to stay in a decrepid dank room where you need shoes to protect your feet from filth? Want to get treated poorly by rude or staff who don’t know policies and make false assurances? Then Auld Holland is the place to stay!

We booked this hotel coming from Canada to explore whidby island for a couple of days. With the exchange rate this hotel ended up still being quite expensive for what it was. The hospitality was wonderful but the rooms desperately need upgrading. But the location is good. I found the room nice and quiet. Clean enough for the evening. House cleaners can only do so much with this place at this point. Parking was easy and ample and I loved hearing the jets overhead as we have an aviation loving child. Breakfast was good and I liked the coffee machine in the lobby!

This place is a true gem! It's an older structure with authentic charm - wooden beams, shuttered windows, floral paint, wallpaper, tile for that eclectic feel. The queen suite with the jetted tub was nice, the fireplace was a cute touch. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of space in the room.
Nothing that ruined the experience for me, but under the bed was not cleaned from the people before us. There were random items and durt visible. Otherwise, the room felt well maintained. I loved the whimsical feeling of opening the windows that push out! The shutters did need cleaned as well.
The front desk woman was so sweet and caring of her guests. Over all it was a great experience for me and my 3 year old on our mama and son get away! We would love to come back.

There is something to be said for the nostalgia of staying at one of the most iconic inns in the island. The staff were wonderful, the continental breakfast was quick and simple, and you can't beat the ease of the location.

The rooms are the only hitch. Very clean, but left a bit to be desired. The doorknob was loose in the frame (thankfully backed up by a deadbolt), and the lights above the sink and mirror plain didn't work.

I still appreciate the wonderful staff, and I can now say I stayed at the Auld Holland after living so close for 20+ years.
