Chef JJ at Wanderlust did such a phenomenal job with the food at our wedding! From the first interaction to the last he was responsive, helpful, and generally lovely. He worked with us to customize the menu so that it perfectly matched what we were going for. He had a huge variety of options to start with; it was hard to narrow it down and select a few. My husband and I went to his tasting room on Bainbridge to make sure we liked all the food we’d selected, and JJ made it clear that we could adjust anything that we didn’t love. But it was truly wonderful, we didn’t need to change a thing. JJ also took special care to make our private tasting feel like a fun event and a date night all in itself. You can tell he really cares about the quality and presentation of his food, he will totally geek out on it. You want this in a chef! At the same time he is so far from snobby or uptight as some chefs can be. I really can’t recommend JJ enough and I’m so grateful that we chose him and his team for our wedding. The food looked great, tasted great, and shockingly, was actually one of the most affordable options we considered. Choose Wanderlust, you will not regret it I promise!

Hiring Chef J.J was probably the best decision of our wedding planning. The entire experience of working with him has been a delight and incredibly smooth. When we started looking at caterers in 2019 for our wedding that was planned for 2020 Chef J.J. not only talked to us about options over the phone but then came over to our apartment in Seattle and cooked us one of the best meals I have eaten (this was before we even booked with him!!). It was an easy choice after that! When the pandemic hit and we had to postpone our August 2020 wedding we were so relieved that Chef J.J. was willing to move our date so seamlessly, which made an incredibly stressful and sad situation much easier. Unfortunately after eagerly awaiting another year for our wedding we ended up needing to postpone it again, I don't think anyone else would have let us not only move it a second time but 2 more years into the future! Chef J.J. has always been so supportive through these decisions and transitions. Luckily we did not have to wait 2 more years to enjoy some of his incredible food, this summer he catered a housewarming for us and the food as just as incredibly as I remembered it. One of the biggest hits were there plancha-seared oyster mushrooms with lemon thyme oil on garlic confit-rubbed bruschetta! I would (and have) highly recommend Wanderlust NW for any catering needs. It has been incredibly experience working with J.J. and I so look forward to our 2023 celebration!

If you have the opportunity to book JJ and Wanderlust, do it!!! We were lucky enough to have him as the caterer for our wedding and cannot recommend him highly enough. The food, of course, was absolutely wonderful (the gazpacho appetizer was a huge hit!). But on top of that, he and his staff were so professional and attentive - making sure we felt like royalty throughout our day (and that we actually got to eat!). He really goes above and beyond to make sure your event is everything you are hoping for.

We hired chef JJ and his team to cater our intimate, small wedding, and we couldn't have been happier with the result. They were flexible and encouraging during the planning process, and worked with us to create a perfect menu, along with suggested wine pairings. They were prompt, professional, and left our space immaculately clean! Most importantly, the food was simply spectacular, from the plethora of appetizers all the way through dessert. JJ cares so deeply about creating an artful, delicious meal, carefully crafted with local ingredients and attention to detail. JJ and his staff were incredibly attentive and brought such enthusiasm and warmth to our day. We will remember each of them and their amazing food for the rest of our lives! We hope to experience their services again, and would recommend them to anyone looking for a spectacular caterer.

So pleased with Chef JJ Johnson's work!! His selections are delightful, and we wonder where he finds the ingredients he uses, which taste so much brighter and better than mine. I strongly recommend his organizational talent and cooking skills to anyone planning a special dinner, event or whatever one uses a caterer for. A real treasure!! Oh and he is personable and an excellent communicator too, you'll enjoy the interaction.

We hired Chef JJ to cater our 40 person backyard wedding and he was absolutely amazing. After brainstorming ideas/sending over example menus for the wedding, Chef JJ was able to combine the PNW cuisine with our love for tacos. The food was ridiculously fresh and by far the best meal I've ever had. Our wedding guests could NOT stop talking about the food (and still talk about it to this day). He was so easy to work with, I felt like he was part of the family. His team went above and beyond our expectations and my only regret of the wedding day was not eating more!

We hired JJ and his team to cater two of our events on the same day. I don't have enough words to describe how lucky we were to have them a part of our day, and to eat their food! JJ is an incredible chef, and the quality of the food feels like you are at a private dinner party. I've never been to an event where people raved so much about the food.

JJ and his team were so responsive, and made the whole process so easy! We will hire them as much as we can for any event we have - they have raised the bar on catering in Washington and we can't thank them enough!!

I still dream of his food often - you won't regret booking him!

JJ catered our 100 person wedding brunch this past June. He was amazing to work with from beginning to end. Leading up to the event, he met with us several times to make sure that we had the details just right. He developed a delicious brunch menu, highlighting flavors of the PNW along with in-season fruits and vegetables. This was a lot of fun for us since we had so many guests from out of town. On the day of the event, his execution was flawless, the food was fantastic. One of the sweetest moments as new Bride and Groom was walking into the venue and a person we had never met before walked up with a smile and said "let me make you some plates-go sit down". It's small details like that that separate the excellent front the good. JJ is both! We could not have imagined a better experience overall. JJ is flexible, responsible, accommodating and communicative. His food is beautifully presented and equally tasty. Kudos to JJ. We hope to have an opportunity to hire him again and highly recommend him!
