I thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The staff was lovely, and I felt so very safe in downtown Spokane. The extra details such as, ear plugs, refillable shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, Dove lotion and bar soap, plus...Kleenex brand tissue made the stay a step up from other hotels. The room was roomy and had the cutest table and chairs as well as a roomy closet to store our clothing for the night. The best part was the heater in the bathroom...I now understand why those are right there and it was the best decision. The ease of access and wonderful color and decor made it really enjoyable to stay for the night. Even the sound of the train in the morning made me ask who was singing because it was so pleasant and made the ear plugs unnecessary for me personally.
I will definitely be staying there again the next time we come up for a little getaway.

Perfect stay in December 2024. This is like an updated fancier 2024 version of a classic American motel design. Felt like motels I stayed in during the 80s but with a clean and modern feel. My room was modern. Staff was friendly and helpful, very smooth check in and check out. They provided a gift certificate for certain free breakfast items at a locally owned restaurant just one block away, I can't remember the name (maybe Rosie's?), which was an excellent restaurant with classic American fare in a diner style. ||I had no complaints during this stay at all and I think this place has probably fixed prior issues and has new construction and management. While I was not bothered by the trains, they do pass periodically, and I had great earplugs of my own which I travel with. Honestly I found the trains passing to not be bothersome and to be enjoyable. This might be an issue for some people, but the hotel does provide earplugs. People who are light sleepers might want to bring earplugs however if they are concerned. ||Classic motel layout with all rooms opening onto a parking lot but in a sleek modern way, well-light, and likely very safe because there are no unobstructed view of anything. ||My room was perfectly modern and clean. ||On picking me up, a local driver told me that this location had a very seedy past, which may explain some old reviews. However I assume things have changed much since then as the place I stayed at was modern, clean, enjoyable.

I've stayed at the Steam Plant (formerly Ruby 2) quite a few times over the years. Since my last visit, they have upgraded the breakfast from continental to restaurant vouchers at Rosie's down the street (yum!) and the nightly price seems to have gone down rather than up. Room was very clean and comfortable, front desk staff was super friendly and helpful. We have long loved the retro vibe, cool inside decor, and of course the loop of Charlie Chaplin films that are projected on the outside wall. We look forward to our next stay!

For the money this place is a great deal. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and had a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The bed was firm and there were a variety of pillows. This hotel is near some train tracks and you can hear the trains, but they weren't too loud. There are plenty of restaurants and bars within a few blocks. They also give you $6 voucher for breakfast at a nearby restaurant, Rosie's. The food was good and the staff was great. However, be aware that if you go on a Saturday or Sunday AM, they will likely be crowded.

This is NOT. A hotel. It is a really bad motel. The dark colored carpet smelled like urine. The walls are paper thin. The motel is parallel to a train track where the trains run all night. My toilet clogged late at night. The person working had to search for a plunger. When one was found, the employee handed it to me and said, “Good Luck.” We never could get it unclogged and nobody did anything about it.

This place is a joke. First off we gotta pay for parking 5 bucks a night definitely highway robbery. And then you can hear people next door so loud and you can smell what they were cooking. Nasty work. And then we woke to eat breakfast and as soon we left gone say did you enjoy our breakfast. We will never stay here again. It's better hotels then what I paid for. Bad location to many homeless people walking around unattractive location. Never disappointed. Still waiting on my 75 dollars Fee

The room was very nice, comfortable, and clean. Had everything needed for a comfortable stay. Loved the Dove products and the fact that the shower had soap and shampoo. You do have to walk a block to get food as there is nothing at all to eat at or near the hotel. You get a breakfast voucher to a nearby restaurant, which was great, but it’s only for sit-in, which I didn’t have time for, even early as I had a business meeting at 7:45. there’s no grab and go continental breakfast that the site indicates.
Hotel manager was friendly, Welcoming, and accommodating (he also corrected a room error happily and at no cost to me), as was the front desk person-until the manager went home. Then he was short and uninterested. I’m a nervous traveller and staying alone in Downtown Spokane. Wasn’t thrilled about walking after dark in that location, even just a block. Was approached not once but twice by two of the several homeless within a block of the hotel. I was told nonchalantly “they’re harmless” when I questioned about the people in the parking lot after dark, as the front desk guy barely looked up. Every question I had was met with underlying irritation “are there any snack vending machines? Nope. Is there a store nearby? Nope (blocks away). Is there nighttime Security? “Yeah…at NIGHT” (it was after dark when I asked)Can you at least watch as I get Into my room (adjacent to the office and in view)? “🙄”.
Lack of empathy, for sure. Maybe had I not been a middle aged woman, rather a young and pretty one, I would have been met with a little more understanding? Hard to know. I would have liked to feel more supported as nervous as I obviously was to be there.
I also wasn’t impressed that you had to pay for parking in the hotels own guest lot. WHAT? Is that a new trend? Because it’s ridiculous.
As for the trains and the noise? I didn’t notice anything! It was cool they provided ear plugs in case you did.
It should also be mentioned that this is not a hotel, as advertised. It’s a Motel. That’s a big deal to me, and I didn’t see the photos that would have clarified that mistake.
I would stay here again-it’s a nice Motel, but definitely not by myself.
(….maybe the front desk guy just didn’t like me-it happens.🤷🏻‍♀️

I consider myself a pretty easy-going traveler who enjoys quaint, charming lodging and never really care much for resorts. So with that, I have to say I was in pure disbelief at the excessive lack of character, charm, and comfort at the Steam Plant. We traveled with a group that arranged our stay there under the notion this place was appropriate for young athletes and parents to stay for a tournament. The photos online look inviting as does the promise of an included breakfast. But the photos online are beyond tampered with. The room's bedding and appearance of cleanliness is not accurate. The appearance of an on-site continental breakfast is not accurate.

They now boast a breakfast offered at a nearby loacstion, be we couldn't enjoy it because we were on a busy time schedule. When I visited Rosie's (the diner where breakfast vouchers are to be taken), the dine-in wait was quoted to be long...over 45 minutes each time. I requested to simply pick up our meal to-go, but they do not honor that. The staff said the vouchers are dine-in only and were unable to explain why a meal can't be pre-ordered to carry-out.

As far as the room, it is just a very low-quality experience. Minimal bedding, one small dining chair at a small floating desk to do work, very little lighting, a general smell of sewage, and very thin walls and windows.

Two sounds were evident throughout the night: the train running adjacent to the building and drug addicts screaming along the street.

Again, it was not my selection of lodging, and I believe Steam Plant has misrepresented itself online and likely to the vendors trying to arrange lodging for big events like ours. It should not have been made available for families to stay in traveling thousands of miles to participate in a high-demand sporting event.

Traveler, beware.
