Skyline Ranch Resort - Front Royal, Virginia

This is a dated campground. The staff is wonderful but the facilities need upgrading. When we arrived I was in a cast and wheelchair because my ankle was broken. I was looking forward to a nice hot shower but we had to overcome several obstacles before I could get that shower. The walkway leading to the bathroom is not wide enough for a wheelchair. My husband had to push my chair through mud on one side and the walkway on the other. Not an easy feat in a standard wheelchair. Once inside the bathroom we discovered that the handicap shower has an even smaller entrance no way we could maneuver into it. So we decided to utilize a different one.
The restroom was nasty because someone had clogged up the toilet. Thank goodness I had shower shoes and we ended up locking the door and my husband stayed with me so that I could wash up without touching anything gross. The cleaning staff came and left and we only saw one who actually cleaned the bathroom. An older couple did a great job cleaning. They actually mopped the floor!!!
We used our own RV shower after that.
We were able to receive packages but no mail while we were staying there.
If it had not been for the staff, Laverne and Jennifer specifically, we would have left. We completely understand the issue with water freezing in the winter, especially when people don’t winterize their RVs properly. We paid for a full hookup but the park had several problems which required the water to be turned off.
They have a lodge but each time we walked up to check it out it was locked. During our stay it was used for several events but not once an actual event that any of the campers were invited to, at least not anything that was advertised. It would have been nice to participate in something as we were there 3 months.
The laundry facility is very dated, small and after looking at it we decided to take our laundry to a laundromat in town. Plus with all of the water issues they were having we didn’t want to take any chances.
There are many long term residents that don’t pick up after their pups. Watch where you step! They have a strict leash rule but that only pertains to certain people. There’s a large dog oftentimes in the office off leash.
The park is inundated with stray cats and there’s at least one long term resident who feeds them. They are about to have a whole new generation of kittens as several of the females are pregnant right now so that problem isn’t going away anytime soon.
While we were packing up a pregnant Momma cat was trying to climb into our vehicle. I guess she was ready to go.
Anyway, this park has a lot of potential but I wouldn’t call it a resort.
The “petting zoo” is really a few animals in the field that are fed daily by the staff but you can’t really interact with them like in other petting zoos. There’s no one around to tell you their names or assist in any way. I guess it might just have been because we were there off season?
Anyway, the place has potential and I really hope they invest in upgrades to the facilities and pay raises for the staff that actually works so hard.

Had a wonderful experience. The area is beautiful, the people are amazing. My one and only complaint was needing to pay for the Wi-Fi, which would have been fine had it not continuously disconnected sporadically.

This place don’t even deserve 1 star!!! Stay away from this place! It is bad!!!! Pics on site must have been from at least 10 years ago.
We were just passing thru thank goodness.
Pull was dirty, Event room had holes in ceiling, water faucet was rusted and this is near their “cafe”
We have stayed a lot of campgrounds during our travels and this has been worst. Stay away!

This is the worst place and nothing but lies in the brochure. The Skyline ranch resort is passed nasty. The water is black and smells like rotten eggs. The facilities are nothing but lies. No security , called three times my front door would not lock. No video game room, no stocked pond,no fields of games. Basketball, volleyball, softball .no holey board. No pedal boats, nothing . You have to pay for Wi-Fi. $21.00 for 7 days. No golden horseshoe cafe. I went by 2 times never anyone there or at the soo line ice cream parlor. ||Had to clean windows to see out on the door too. ||Had to clean jacuzzi tub before using. ||Had to wash dishes before using. ||I have pictures of the front and back deck covered in mildew , black so bad that it could not be used. Rotten boards on both decks. ||I Was moved with in 2 hours of arriving because the a. C. Froze up. ||Ms. Frank is running this place on a three person crew .

This is my 10th year visiting Skyline Ranch for the Appaloosa Festival and consider it my home away from home! I have stayed in the RV park as well as the cabins and currently in chalet 3 which is fantastic! The owner is the sweetest and truly cares about her guests and all the staff are so helpful! The bathhouses are always clean and the pool is a favorite of my kids. The farm animals are well cared for and very friendly, especially the miniature horse. Our chalet has everything we need and the linens are all super high quality. We haven't tried the wifi because we brought our own (starlink) but the signal shows strong. Front Royal is a lovely community with plenty of restaurants and entertainment. A few places in town deliver to Skyline but UberEats has a larger selection of delivery options. Can't wait to visit again next year!

We had a very nice visit here. We stayed for about a week. We were here in late October, so nearly all of the amenities weren't on offer. But that's okay; the beauty of the surrounding area kept us busy.

Only about 15 minutes from either Strasburg or Front Royal, and slightly closer to the entry gate for Skyline Drive.

The staff was kind and helpful. The showers were clean.

We really enjoyed being able to see the horses in a neighboring pasture along with the various animals in the petting zoo.

This was our second stay at the campground. the first time was not good. The WiFi doesn’t work and you have to pay for it.
This last time we had to leave a day early. And I let them know in plenty of time. The girl at the desk said she couldn’t refund because it was already billed. But Security said they would text me before they sent the charge through. That was a lie. Ok let’s go back to the first visit. We paid for the WiFi. And we went to the office twice. The girl said it was being worked on. And twice see said I will call you when it is back up. No call No WiFi. So wasted money. So when we were there last week and had to leave a day early. And with out a refund. I told the girl at the desk that this was crazy you keep my money with no service. Now you are keeps one night stay. Anyway the girl at the desk said I can give you a refund for the WiFi. So I said I would come back and get the refund when is was straightened out. She said no problem she would bring it to our campsite. Well she never followed through. Well we left the next day. Never will we return to Skyline Ranch Resort. Not a resort. Nothing works. Bathrooms are filthy. The amenities mentioned in their brochure? Not found.
Lied and keeps your money.

I gave 3 stars to the rooms and service as I did not stay. We visited as a family to enjoy the pool, a bite to eat. They had a good sized car show going on but we didn't check that out. We were too busy having a good time in the pool before going back to the house for some 4th of July fun. Great place, very clean and overall great experience. We will be visiting again, most likely this coming weekend.
