I have been coming to Cali BBQ for years now and still remember when it had comfort (see what I did there?). I feel like the quality has continuously declined over the last year/year and half. Tonight's order is really what drove me to write this review. Overall the food just felt okay, which sucked because I was really craving BBQ. The pork sandwich was really dry, and brisket was only slightly better in that aspect. The amount of coleslaw was paltry that came with sandwich, and neither that or the brisket we ordered came with any pickles or pickled onions that I feel like we've gotten before. For a pound of brisket and a pulled pork sandwich, we were only provided 3 small things of BBQ sauce that left us wanting. I still have half of the brisket and no sauce for it. I loved the portion of onion rings, but once again the amount of ranch was incredibly small for the amount of rings. We only got one small container of ranch that wasn't even filled all of the way. I've been coming here for years and this is by far the worst quality I have ever received. 2 stars for the nostalgia. Maybe I'll give them one more shot to prove me wrong.

It was the first time we visited the place and we liked it a lot. At first we were a little lost but we told the host that it was our first time and he treated us very well, the waitress was very attentive, the food was delicious, the only detail is that in my opinion the pork was a little cold and dry but everything was fine, the sides were on point , I love the beans, we will definitely return!

Day one was the Tailgater Feast and it was delicious. It was Tri-tip, pork ribs and tips, brisket pulled pork, 1/2 bbq chicken, jalapeño corn bread, wedding beans, mac and cheese, potato salad, Wicked peach cobbler, and coleslaw. Day two we had Cali Bear smash burger with onion rings, a side of Tri-tip Carolina sauced chicken wings, and brisket, mac salad, and mac and cheese. Every thing we ate was beyond what I expected. The meats were very flavorful and succulent, the Tri-tip was a slightly tough but very delicious. The brisket almost made me cry it was juicy and had great smoke flavor. My first bite of the pork ribs and tips is when the eyes closed, just fall off the bone with the perfect amount of chew resistance. The tips on the other hand just melted in your mouth. The pulled pork was a little dry, but the flavor was not lacking and I was really pleased. The potato salad really surprised me, the dressing was light and creamy with the perfect amount seasoning, and the texture was on point. I don’t like mac salad at all, but I wanted to shovel it into my mouth!! Eating the coleslaw and pickled onions and pickles along with the bbq was a stupendous combo. In between were bites of buttery, heat kissed bits of jalapeño cornbread muffins with just enough cheese. The chicken wings were crispy juicy and the sauce was finger licking good!! What a fantastic meal!! After moaning, grinning, and patting our bellies, the Wicked peach cobbler came. Oh you wicked wicked cobbler absolutely perfect!!😋 Two days later we were back, hopping for the same experience. Not a chance! It was more mind blowing. The Cali burger was my first ever smash burger, however it was top 3 burgers of my life. The patties were dripping with juice and flavor, the sauce paired great with it and the cheese. Dipping the onion rings in the ranch wasn’t even necessary, because they can stand alone, either way I was a happy camper. Overall I give it all an 8.9 out of 10, the food was top notch along with the friendly staff. Customer service seems to be on the endangered list, but not here, what a beautiful experience. We enjoyed it so much we ordered 1 pound of brisket, mac salad and peach cobbler on DoorDash on day 2. Safe to say we’re fans, I will be wearing my T-shirt so others can experience it too.

Some of the best bbq I've had in the San Diego area. Ribs were fall off the bone tender. I know that's an overly used rib description but it's accurate. Mac & cheese was a delicious side and the potato salad nice and mellow and not mystardy,njust how I like it. I got a pickup order. Was very quick and easy to get my food. I appreciate them keeping the food hot in a tight-closed container while I was on the way to pick it up. These details matter especially with bbq. Inside looked like a fun spot for a group. Looking forward to trying more. As for why it didn't get 5 stars, I found nothing wrong with it but reserve 5 stars for truly favorite or special places. Maybe this rating can change in the future.

Burger was great and the French fries......were amazing. Dave was my server/bartender(i ate at the bar) Dave was like hanging out with a great friend and shooting the breeze. BTW monday to Friday $3 beers 2 til 5.

Cali BBQ came through for us this THANKSGIVING since we got ill at the last minute with the flu. It was such a blessing to have homecooked food when we needed it. Ordered the Tailgaters platter. Perfect for our family.

The food was okay, I was expecting more for the price we paid.

Brisket loaded fries was okay, brisket sandwich lacked flavor, loaded jalapeño bacon mac & cheese was disappointing, along with the slaw. I will say the wedding beans were delicious! BBQ sauce is thick and very sweet. Overall I would rate this place a 7/10.

Would I go back again? Maybe, maybe.
