Great older hotel that's been kept up, right on the beach, which was the main reason for booking this place. I believe we stayed in room 105 on the lower level and had 2 queen beds, a full kitchen, and a little table for eating. The parking situation wasn't my favorite as you had to find street parking but they provided a voucher. There wasn't a toilet paper holder, which would be nice and sanitary, and blackout curtains would have helped with sleeping a little later. Overall, I still really like the unique spot and literally steps from the sand. We would definitely return and recommend. Walking distance to everything you need.

Online photos are deceiving. We thought we were getting a front ocean view room but received a side room with partial ocean view. There is no sofa, or family room, just two bedrooms, a small bathroom and small kitchen. TV had poor streaming, broken signal made viewing near impossible. Kitchen had few kitchen utensils and no forks. The one positive is that it is right on the beach within walking distance to many restaurants and shops. It was a good value for the money if you want to be on the beach, just disappointed the description wasn't accurate.

I LOVE the Historical Vurpillat! From the moment I called to make the reservation to the moment I left the hotel I felt a beautiful kindness from everyone I encountered. Derrick greeted me and was so kind and accommodating. Jay is the owner and he helped me with my reservation over the phone and made sure I was comfortable and taken care of. I am in customer service and my stay exceeded my expectations in many areas. The location is perfect for a relaxing getaway. I stayed in a studio style room with a kitchen, an incredible comfy bed and very cozy hang out spot on a leather sofa with a big screen TV. My windows looked out onto the beach. If you are into volleyball, biking, walking, swimming eating and having fun...this is your place. Hermosa beach is a small beach town and the Vurpillat is perfectly situated right in the middle of it. Super clean and well kept. There is a bike shop at the end of the walk street to the east. Trick EBIKES. Nicest guy ever and once again great service. Bike riding on the strand goes for miles and miles Palos Verdes to Malibu. A lot to see along the way and make sure you visit Mickey's Italian Deli on 2nd street/ Hermosa Avenue.... Best ever! The pier is located 2 blocks from the hotel to the north. Pier Avenue has great eats, shopping, drinking, banks, pilates and yoga studio, and gyms are near by. I was traveling solo and I never felt unsafe or unsure of my surroundings. |I love it and highly recommend it! Thanks to all who made my stay perfect!!!

We had a great time. Jason the owner is a great guy. Really nice laid back and friendly. We could not ask for better service. The beach is in the front and you can walk for km non stop and its just an amazing place. I recommend it to anybody. And the price is real fair

BEWARE!!! They will take your money even if you don't check in. We made emergency reservations here trying to flee the Sunset fire. We never checked in. Their policy is you can cancel anytime before checking without a fee. They charged us $960. I immediately let them know and was assured by Jay that he was aware of it and was taking care of it. He said he would call me back immediately . Over a week later we still have not been refunded. He never called back. Now he says he's very confused and doesn't know how to do refunds.

What a wonderful place! Jay gets 5 stars for his accommodating entrepreneurial spirit! It's been almost a month since I stayed at the Vurpillat and I'm still reminiscing about the fun experience of staying right on the strand. It's refreshing to experience a nostalgic atmosphere as opposed to corporate. I highly recommend this beachfront accommodation and the price is right, too! I will be returning for sure 😊

Super comfy beds and pillows. Huge tv with free Netflix and smooth streaming. Recommend ocean facing rooms. Really great clean rooms and the best price on the strand.

Location is great is right by the beach. The hotel is old. But the worst part is that there’s no elevator. The smell of old was bad. The bed was so soft my body was sinking we left with our bodies aching we slept badly. I think the bed was a full there was no way that bed was a queen. One of the night was so loud that we couldn’t sleep there was a bunch of kids out there drunk and since there’s no front desk Nobody could tell the kids to go away. Yeah forgot to mentioned is self check in and check out. There’s no parking in the property. You gotta park on the street which is least two blocks down. I would definitely won’t be staying there. Or even recommended.
