This is a perfect location for visiting Lassen Volcanic NP. They were closed due to wildfires until a few days before our visit, so our plans were a bit up in the air, but so glad we were able to visit Lassen and stay here. Driving in, we saw fire damage and realized it was pretty close to their location. We stayed in the motel, but they also have campgrounds, cabins and a higher end resort. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Everybody we came in contact with was friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed Frank's Bistro on site there.

We stayed in one of the drive up motel rooms. The rooms were up to date and modern, the shower was great- excellent pressure, and got hot quickly. The host was extremely helpful and made sure we were all set. Rooms are not spacious, but we're here for the outdoors and the location could not be better for beautiful LVNP!

I had a Standard King Room which was a good size, bed comfortable and nice bedding. Coffee maker, microwave and fridge. Shower worked well and on the first morning had nice hot water. Parking outside room. Seats outside the room were nice and were in the evening sun. Wifi worked well first night but on the second night neither laptop nor phone could see the network. I had phone signal – verizon.|The onsite shop had very limited hours.||Some irritations – no clothes hangers just hooks on the wall; very limited space to put things down in the bathroom which was pretty inconvenient; limited space to put things down in main room with 2 small bedside tables and a little side table under the tv; housekeeping emptied my bin but didn’t replenish my coffee supplies (I’d have been less irritated if I had received no housekeeping at all).||No hot water last morning which another guest told me was due to a burst pipe. I accept this was just bad luck but would have appreciated an apology email rather than just an auto ā€œhope you enjoyed your stayā€.||It is really the only game in town for hotel type accommodation near the south entrance to Lassen. The location is great so, despite the cost and the irritations, I’d stay again if visiting the park.

Would be a 4 star review, however, the bathrooms are shared with the restaurant attached to the RV park office. We did not feel comfortable, nor felt like we had privacy, when taking showers knowing that customers from the restaurant can walk right into the bathrooms. The showers were only made private via a shower curtain….that were pretty much transparent. Most RV parks have stalls that enhance the privacy of their visitors. Also, while WiFi is provided it is basically non existent. One positive is, it is a close drive to the southern entrance of the park where majority of the hikes are located.

This hotel has NO WIFI!!!
This area has no phone signal, and they don’t provide wifi. There’s emergency phone outside I tried 3 times but didn’t work either. When emergency or dangerous happen at night, you have no way to save yourself.
Stay away from this hotel!

This will be a long review.

I’ve stayed at this motel several times over the past couple years. Location in relation to Lassen Park is unbeatable. The rooms are well-kept and extremely clean. Shower water pressure could be better. The water has a sulfur odor, which is a local ā€œfeatureā€ of this area.

On my most recent visit this past Monday-Wednesday there were two issues. When I arrived at my room after an evening hike Monday, the people next door were literally screaming at each other and throwing things. The guests on the other side were terrified and packing their car up to go back home. I ran over to the restaurant to talk with the employees about this, and they came over and had a very stern talk with the problem guests. Since I was planning to get up very early to go hiking, I was still worried about more disturbances possibly making it impossible to sleep. I was given a new room way down toward the other end, and that was great. Even nicer (and I really didn’t expect this) they refunded me for one of my two nights. When I got up a bit after 4am, the vehicle of the problem guests was already gone. Perhaps they were kicked out, they certainly deserved it.

I returned from hiking very late in the evening, shortly before midnight. Apparently when they gave me a new room, they failed to program its keycard for my second night (the keycard for my original room still worked, as I later found out). I first tried to use the red ā€œemergency phoneā€. It did not work at all. I then called the ā€œafter hours serviceā€ number. This connects to an answering service, but in eleven attempts over nearly two hours they were unable to reach anyone associated with the motel. Remembering that I had left the bathroom window open before leaving that morning, I finally ripped open the screen with the tip of a trekking pole and got into my room that way. No one from the emergency service ever called back. I could have slept in the car I guess, but really wanted to shower and was also completely out of drinking water (aside from what I had in the room).

The next morning (more accurately, a few hours later that same morning) after a few hours of sleep I called the hotel office and explained what had happened and what I’d done. They were profusely apologetic, came right over with a replacement working key card, and a new invoice for $0.00 for my entire stay. I can’t fault them for that kind of service, and greatly appreciate it.

All that said: I *implore* them to rethink their ā€œpeople like to be disconnected during their stayā€ that I understand the owners are firmly holding to. We are a world now dependent on cellular and data connectivity, and the ā€œemergency provisionsā€ provided by this motel both completely failed. My situation was relatively minor (though at the time it didn’t feel that way, especially after the timed lights all went off around midnight leaving the entire area in pitch darkness). For someone in a serious situation (medical or otherwise), a scenario with the emergency phone/non-responsive after-hours service could mean literally life or death.

Note: the only reliable cell service in this location is Verizon. My Verizon iPad worked quite well, and allowed me to tether my T-Mobile iPhone to make phone calls. Without Verizon, and with WiFi *only* in the restaurant across the street, you are literally cut off. I did find one tiny area in the parking lot where I found T-Mobile to *barely* work without tethering to the iPad.

I’ve stayed in other remote motels (see my review of the Andruss Motel in Walker, CA, for one example) that had great working WiFi, and I think in 2024 this should be the standard. Certainly for a motel that ends up being nearly $200/night with all the taxes.

Please, PLEASE…if the owners ever see this review, PLEASE reconsider your position on ā€œconnectivityā€. At the very least, fix the ā€œemergency phoneā€ (which dials but doesn’t connect) and do something about the ā€œafter-hours serviceā€. My situation was stressful and annoying. Someone else may have far worse circumstances.

The location is nice but there is no Internet in the rooms. The hotel reception tells you that you can connect to Wi-Fi by staying close to the store or going to the nearby Highlands Ranch Resort. But in both places the connections kept dropping, so we had to give up. In the 21st century, Internet connection is kind of expected in a hotel. Adding one more Starlink base station and a couple of wireless access points would easily solve the problem. Also, I noticed that the exterior walls of the hotel are completely rusted. Seems like the hotel management is not willing to do the required maintenance nor invest in Internet access.

Great location if you plan on going to Lassen Volcanic National Park! The room was very clean and comfortable. It had a refrigerator and microwave. There is a heater, but no air conditioner, but with the evenings cooling down and a ceiling fan and opening the windows is was good sleeping. They have a little restaurant you can sit outside and eat or go across the street to the very nice restaurant for appetizers, dining and drinks. The Brie was amazing!
