Really great catfish!! Cooked perfectly! Great seasoning, the breading was thin and crispy. The baked beans were thick and tasty. The coleslaw was a good consistency and the portion was generous.

We drove over an hour to try this place. It had great reviews so we thought it would be a good meal for Father's Day. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't worth the drive. The portion sizes were great for the price. It's hard to feed a family of 4 for $60, but we did and we left full. It seems like our food was either cooked in old grease, or the grease wasn't hot enough. The fish was SO greasy and salty that I couldn't finish mine. My fried okra was sitting in oil when it came out. Despite the bad, the hush puppies were the star of the show. The tartar sauce was also delicious. We will probably never make a special trip here again, but it was an okay experience. I did witness an employee being rude to a customer. The family had been there before us. One of them was waiting on their food when we ordered and was still waiting after we got our food. When they finally gave up and asked for a refund, the employee threw her hands up at them and acted like they were lying about not having been served yet. I've worked in the restaurant business and tend to give grace in these situations because things happen. But she was so rude to that family for no reason. That dampened my opinion of the establishment right off the bat. I hope the customer service issues can be worked out for future patrons.

Was open only through drive-thru because they had a group inside, but the entire front dining area was empty. After the group left, I asked if we could come in to eat instead of eating at one of the tables outside because it was really hot outside even though it was almost 8 PM. Was told no because they were cleaning the dining area where the group had been. While there both sitting waiting on the food to get ready and then sitting outside to eat there were probably 5 people who read the sign on the door and just turned around and left, even after the group had gone.
My order was supposed to be two plates with two whole Catfish with two sides and four extra orders of hushpuppies. When we got the order, there were 3 filets in each box. I again ordered WHOLE Catfish, which would have equal 4 filets, not 3. I was also surprised that the hushpuppies had sugar in them, the tarter sauce was made with mustard, and the fries were cold.
I think you can tell by this review that this was our first time eating here and will definitely be our last. Oh, and the best part was that it cost close to $50.

First time to eat at Swamp Johns. I ordered a large whole catfish. I have ate all over the country and I guess I expect things. I payed too much for 2 medium size at best catfish. I figured I was getting 3. Thats my fault.The tastexwas good just felt like I got short changed. This was a to go order so to add insult to injury I payed for Banana Pudding and 1 strawberry cake that didnt get put in our bag of food. I am dissapointed in what cost me 84.91for 5 people to eat. I will not be back.

Birmingham, take note, THIS is how you do catfish and hush-puppies!! We drove 2.5 hrs to get the best catfish in the state!!

We have loved Swamp John’s since our first volunteer fire department fund raiser in North Alabama.

Tonight we were in the area so we made a the obvious choice. Swamp John’s serves fresh golden brown catfish filets and hush puppies made the right way!

The catfish plate comes with 3 filets, two sides and of course, a big slice of onion and dill pickle!

Fresh, hot and crisp: you couldn’t ask for better. The catfish filet is cooked to perfection and flakes apart when you break it open. The hush puppies are well, the best around. Hot moist cornmeal with just a touch of spice.

Fries and coleslaw are on point! Staff was pleasant and helpful. Restaurant was clean and up to date.

Make the drive to Muscle Shoals, AL and give the best catfish around a try. You won’t be disappointed!
