We unfortunately did not have a positive experience with Don and Wine Country Artisans. Don catered our wedding in the summer of 2021. He was initially professional and gave us a competitive quote. Things however went downhill from there. Key issues included multiple extended periods of not responding to emails and texts, changing pricing after agreeing to a quote, showing up late on the day of the event, taking alcohol leftover from the event, and not properly cleaning up. The food itself was fine, but everything else about the experience left much to be desired.

Despite the poor overall experience, we still decided to leave a generous tip for the staff working the event. We did not want to penalize them for what we felt was the owner's poor performance. We emailed Don afterward with our concerns but never received a response.

Overall, I would give my experience with WCA Catering 2 stars. I got married in October 2022 and had them cater a small 70 person wedding at a friend's property. Don assured me this would be a very easy event for him, yet I did not feel confident in him throughout the process.

PROS: The food was good. We had a buffet with salad, pizza, tri-tip, and asparagus. The pizza from his wood fired oven was great and exactly what I was looking for. He brought quite a few staff workers and they were all polite and worked very hard. The price was reasonable compared to other quotes I got from caterers in the Bay Area. He also handled all the rentals - although, I would recommend doing this yourself because of how hard to communicate with and disorganized he is.

CONS: Don made this an extremely stressful process, to the point where I questioned if he would even show up to my wedding several times. We first communicated in March and I booked him for our October 2nd wedding. After not hearing from him since March, I reached out to him on Sept 5 to make sure we were still scheduled and to ask some questions. He didn't answer my questions until Sept 20 (less than 2 weeks before the wedding) after I sent him multiple reminders. We did a venue walk-through the week before the wedding and he showed up 30 mins late, and spent a good portion of our time talking about conspiracy theories and personal family issues. Because he organized the rentals, I asked him to give the rental company my phone number to let us know what time they were delivering everything. He didn't, and they showed up super early in the morning and I had to rush to the venue to show them where to deliver everything. On the day of the wedding, he appeared to be very frantic and stressed. He was rude to several people at the wedding including my father, thought my husband was his waitstaff, and was very dismissive towards me and ignored me several times when I asked him if it was a good time to cut the cake. They spilled grease in the gravel driveway of the property, and spilled coffee and coffee grounds in the garage and tried to hide it.

I would not recommend using WCA Catering for your wedding. Ultimately, I give 2 stars because he did show up, and the food was good. However, it wasn't worth the added stress and uncertainty that he caused, and I would not work with him again. He does have many other positive reviews, so it's possible I had a one-off bad experience, but wanted to share my perspective for future brides that may be considering working with him.

Best advice to others considering company as a caterer, choose anyone else with at least an ounce of class, professionalism and overall respect for their clients and staff.

Here's just a few examples of the experience and the way this "chef" conducts himself:
- the way he and his team poorly treated the site
- burning of food products for guests
- treating fellow event contractors as if they were second class citizens
- yelling at staff in front of guests
- allowing his staff to get drunk onsite, in front of guests,
AND THE BIGGEST OFFENSE - him trying to steal alcohol from the event...

These actions are truly an appalling embarrassment to one's representation of his own company. Take your business elsewhere, do not support this company.

Do yourself a giant favor and hire Don for your catering needs. Not only is his customer service 10/10, his food is something you are dreaming about right now. This guy makes his own cheeses and fancy finishing salts, can whip out dozens of pizzas (using said home-made cheeses) in minutes times, and will make your tastebuds feel like they are having a personal food party – because they are. Don catered our wedding and his prices were very reasonable and the quality of all the food, according to me and my 100+ guests, was *chef’s kiss*

I would never recommend this business. This guy is extremely rude and unprofessional not only to his staff, but to guests as well. Nothing was prepared on time and the event was disrupted by loud arguing, cursing, and yelling. On top of that, they’re were late and left a mess behind. Avoid at all costs.
