I would visit the Strawberry Peak Fire Lookout Tower every summer as a child and I was so excited to finally bring my kiddos!
We didn't know but we visited on the towers 90th birthday! It was so fun!
The climb up the metal stairs and metal platforms are not for the faint of heart. Goodness it is high up itself and then high up on the mountain. The views are amazing and worth the (maybe) scary trip up the tower.

The volunteers that work there are wonderful people. They spent 20 minutes explaining to us what happens if they were to see smoke in the mountains, and how the dispatch system works. They also showed us how they triangulate where the fire is based on a device built in the 1920s!

They're all so helpful, they also told us where to go during our stay, as they're locals.

Honestly, great views and wonderful volunteers doing great work to protect the community, and the mountains of San Bernardino. Please pay them a visit! Your attendance matters to them, as it keeps the post open! 🙂

Tower wasn't open, even during assigned hours. Great view anyway. Road isn't plowed so bring AWD/4WD during snow. Good hikes in the area.

This is one of 4 active lookout towers for SB Fire. Within sight, are also two peaks with lookouts along Cleveland National Forest.

I was told that it is manned mostly by volunteers and usually one to two up every day from Spring through Summer. As weather permits, daily Fall and Winter.

You can drive straight into the lookout with about 6-8 parking spots.

It’s a quick hike from Twin Peaks on main roads. The view is incredible at 360 degrees.

Open 9-5 certain parts of the year. Very knowledgeable volunteers that can teach you a bit about the history and the Osborne fire finder. You are able to take the stairs to the lookout tower. Dogs cannot go up to the watch tower. There is a port-a-potty.

Cool place but check weather before going if you plan to see the views. We unfortunately only saw clouds below us. They are open May - Nov (week after Thanksgiving), so didn’t get to go up to the tower. They were actually putting barb wire over the fence. The port-a-potty is inside the small fenced area too by the way. Will come back!
