A friend was in town and really wanted to go to Sauls. She was craving the falafel
and I had never been so we decided to give it a try. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. My friend did get the falafel plate and I got the half Sando and soup combo. Because I hadn't had matzo ball soup in a long time I decided to go the upcharge and get the matzo with my half Ruben Sando.
The pastrami sandwich with acme rye bread was delicious and the soup was good, but do expect to pay a pricy penny for a small portion. The food is tasty but the portions are a bit small. $24.78 (before tip) for half a Sando, a small cup of soup and an espresso.
My friends falafel plate looked delicious and fresh.
It's like a diner style inside with booths all around.
I'm glad I got to try the place out!

Loved the matzo ball soup and the celery seed soda. The malach was good (Yemeni bread) was good and light. Cute interior. Will return.

I ordered a Reuben Sandwich (corned beef), potato salad, house made soda, and carrot cake, to go.
The sandwich was delicious, and substantial in size. The potato salad was good, as expected, as was the dill pickle spear. The Lemon Clove house made soda was unexpected, and delicious. For an adult palate, the balance of sweetness, lemon, clove, and carbonation were perfect. I want to try the other flavors of house made soda too. The carrot cake was moist and delicious too.

Always a great experience here for many many years. When they changed ownership a few years ago, they got even better. The bagels are excellent and they have a great mix of Middle Eastern and American Jewish food.

Had the best date night here tonight. Keith was our waiter. He recommended the Ruben and Pastrami ruskie with potato salad and coleslaw. It was excellent, I could've cried from the pure joy. This is the best restaurant in Berkeley, I've been dining here all my life but tonight was memorable and excellent. Great service and ambiance. Life changing food, I'm serious. If you haven't been, it's a must. Thank you guys for a great experience

So thrilled to have discovered Saul’s restaurant! I grew up in New York and this restaurant surpasses any Jewish delis that I’ve been to. I had the eggplant schnitzel, which was perfectly cooked and delicious, on perfectly toasted homemade bread. I liked that it wasn’t a huge daunting sandwich and was able to leave room for the combo dish of falafel, hummus, feta, and olives. Everything was cooked with love. I enjoyed the vibe in the restaurant, the staff were fantastic, and I felt so comfortable in the space. The desserts were incredible too. We shared chocolate baklava and a chocolate covered macaroon. I can’t wait to come back and try more of the vegetarian items on the menu and the cheesecake!

Saul’s has the best Jewish food I’ve had since moving to California! The Pastrami Reuben was absolutely delicious, with a generous portion of meat and perfectly toasted bread, it did not disappoint. The Brisket Bubbe was also delicious, I like the Reuben more, but my friend preferred the brisket. Between the two sides, I like the potato salad more than the coleslaw. I also ordered the Green New Dill, a dill infused cocktail that was very refreshing. My friend ordered something I’ve never had, a celery cream soda, and that was delicious too!
The service was good at the restaurant. Our waiter was attentive and answered questions about my tree nut allergy.
As for the ambiance, the vibes in there were pretty good! We got sat outside and thanks to the heaters we weren’t too cold, but we did have to stay bundled up for the whole meal. The inside feels like an old Jewish deli and is quite charming. I’ll be going back to Saul’s for sure!

New Year's Day lunch at Saul's I had the Corned Beef Reuben Sandwich, pretty good...still seems to be light on the kraut and Russian Dressing. The Pickle Plate was great again!
Two Years Ago...
The Pastrami Reuben here is pretty good and worth the drive. The Reuben that I had last night had the freshest and smokiest Pastrami! I always ask for extra Sauerkraut on the ki sandwich but I can't find it on the sandwich! What is with the Kitchen here?
They prepare most everything there from the Briskets to the pickles.
