The Monarch Cove Inn in Capitola is charming, as is all the staff (office, cleaners, handyman). The woman who checked me in was extremely friendly and accommodating, and available by cell phone if I needed anything. ||If you're looking for a sterile Hilton, this is not for you. But it is perfect for independent people who like style. If you need brand new carpet, etc., then there are more expensive newer hotels you can stay at. But if you think a little paint chipping just adds charm to a historic building, then you might love this place!||I stayed in the Lavender Room, which has a wonderful view of the Monterey Bay and the grounds. A lovely breakfast was brought to my room each morning: fresh toasted bagel (I expected it to be cold, but it was still very warm!) with cream cheese and butter and jam options, a parfait of delicious fresh fruit, a special request of hot water and tea (instead of coffee). It was quite satisfying.||The grounds are lit up brightly so you can find your way back to your room after a night out with friends, and feel safe walking around. ||If I stayed in winter I would ask for a space heater because the bathroom would be quite chilly, and not sure if the electric fire/heater would warm the room enough in winter. It was probably in the 50s during my stay in March and it was plenty warm enough. ||The bed was very comfortable, and it was the perfect cozy place to come 'home' to at the end of they day. ||As a side note, the owner donated adjacent land to the city where the monarch butterflies hibernate in winter, so this park land is available to the public for free and includes public bathrooms. ||My only real complaint is not about the room, but that the owner wants to sell the property, and instead of selling as-is (I saw a letter from a realtor assessing it for $3.1M a few years ago), he is trying to get permission set up for the next owner to be able to ruin this beautiful property with 40 units. This would make it as sterile as so many other boring hotels, and I would hate to be one of the neighbors who has my peaceful neighborhood ruined with all that extra traffic.

Absolutely marvelous stay in this historical hideaway! (also the name of our comfy cottage). Stunning views and walks, incredibly private and serene. Very warm, personal, attentive welcome from Katrina and all the staff. We got lucky with the weather - sunny and brisk. Capitola is our favorite place and we cannot WAIT to come back and stay again at Monarch Cove. lovelovelove!

We have a wonderful time every time we go here. I love the romantic decor. You can't beat the location. There are gorgeous views and antiques. My family and I enjoy walking to the beach from the inn. We love the complementary breakfast, as well.

We loved the Monarch Cove Inn in Capitola! It is located right on the edge of the ocean and the whole property is absolutely beautiful. It is also a short 15-20 minute walk to Capitola Village where you can eat at tasty restaurants and shop at unique shops. It also includes breakfast which was delicious. We stayed in the Carriage House Cottage which is dog friendly, has 2 rooms and a kitchen. The ones who run the Inn are very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend the Monarch Cove Inn to anyone who wants to stay in a cozy, comfortable, romantic and memorable place.

The Monarch Cove Inn is a unique place to stay. Our arrival was smooth, we were shown to our room. The grounds are literally on a cliff that has an incredible view of the Monterey Bay. There are decks and chairs that allow you to sit and relax as you take in the view. We stayed in the lilac room which has windows that continue the view in your room. The furnishings and linens are in keeping with a historic home. Some updating of the bathroom and linens would add to the experience. We found everything to be very clean and a lovely tray with pastries and fruit was brought to our room for breakfast. This is an older Property in a unique setting. Some will be comfortable and enjoy it, if you’re looking for modern conveniences this may not be for you.

This was such a lovely stay. The location is amazing, we could walk to downtown and got to look at all the sweet houses around. The property is so cute and quaint, we walked around a bit and because we had the hideaway suite we had our own private patio where we had our wine and danced in the evening. The rooms are exactly what you need for an inn, and are a bit dated, but really they are kept up well and are just decorated to fit the property. The breakfast service is so fun. I think it’s a perfect small breakfast, bagel was toasted perfectly and coffee wasn’t too bad! I would love to come back to this location, hoping when they sell it they keep it this similar style of inn. We also went to Shadowbrook and their shuttle service was able to pick us up there easily.

So far best Anniversary getaway ever. Room was perfect. Bed was so comfortable. Felt like old cottage home. Brought breakfast to your door. Which was nice we got to eat in our room looking out our window. Will definitely come back and stay next time. 😊

Probably the most comfortable and cutest inn I’ve stayed in. Then on top of that, the staff was incredibly accommodating! Breakfast in the room was fantastic as well. We didn’t realize it because we arrived after dark, but you can see the ocean through the trees! We will definitely be back the next time we’re staying in the area.
