We stayed for 3 nights and loved it. Our bed and pillows were so comfortable.. Great staff, huge clean room and a near by coffee shop plus a little grocery spot a couple blocks away.. The location is a 5 minute walk to the beach. We left our car at the hotel and took the bus everywhere.. so happy we stayed here. This was such a great trip. Highly recommend The Shoal.

Everything was great with our stay! The room was huge, very clean, and close to the ocean. Kory and Alfred were especially hospitable and helpful.
Although we never used the pool or jetted hot tub pool, that area looked very nice. Based on this experience, I highly recommend the Shoal!

What a lovely gem in La Jolla! Really, I was struggling to find a perfect 3 night hotel in La Jolla and finally decided on this one. It was easy to find and the location was really nice. A little busy on the street but it slowed down at night. We had room 301 which is the "penthouse" and it was perfect! Very private and away from other people was just what we were looking for. The room was very well renovated, and so much beautiful natural light shined in it instantly made me happy!!
A short walk down a one-way street to a breathtaking shoreline and plenty of places to eat nearby.
After a day out, the bed was extremely comfortable and the pillows too. Never turned the TV on so no comment on quality of channels, but there a mini fridge and microwave in room.
Bathroom was large with the best little closet in the space.
Absolutely loved everything about this place and the front desk clerk Alfred was very active in making sure we had a great stay. The parking is $15 a night but big deal, it was $48 a night at our other hotel for 8 nights! So don't complain about this small amount.
It was chilly at night so we used the heater at the window, it was a little loud but it to be expected.
Definitely would recommend and come back as a repeat customer.

The bed was way too soft and there was no real blanket cover. The water pressure in the shower was too low and our room had basicely no daylight because it was in a sort of tunnel. The location and the staff were very good though.

Enjoyed a great stay over the holiday period.
Rooms were clean and tidy and got a good night's sleep on the comfy beds.
Great location for an easy walk to the beach and public transport to the surrounding area, restaurants etc.
Staff were amazing, friendly and extremely helpful.
Bike hire extremely cheap for the area, recommend them for a couple of hours to ride to the various view points along the ocean to take in the amazing sunsets.
Would definitely stay again.

The Shoal pleasantly surprised me at just about every turn. I chose this place due to location and mostly price. Because I've stayed in cheaper hotels before, I lowered my expectations and didn't expect too much. Well I was completely wrong. every single person I encountered working there was unbelievably pleasant and helpful. I showed up early and they were able to safely check my bags at the front desk, and texted me when I had something delivered at the front desk.
The room was brand new. Fresh paint, fresh bed, large bathroom. The fridge was cold and the TV was large. But most importantly, it was incredibly clean. Each night I walked two minutes to the beach, and each morning I got a tasty breakfast at the business right nextdoor

This hotel experience was incredible. From the rooms to the staff, it was straight out of a movie. I highly recommend this place, the only worry I have is that next time I come to La Jolla, the Shoal would have become too popular for me to get a room! Keep it up Shoal, I can't wait to come back!

Great hotel for the money. It is simple, but rooms are large and clean, beds are good, complimentary coffee and a great location near the ocean. Bare in mind - parking is $15/ day.

I was so impressed with the kindness of everyone, especially alfred! Thank you so much for every little detail and for allowing us to stay a little longer because of our little emergency anyway you all are fabulous. The bed is comfortable. The room is clean and meet we will stay here again next time hopefully for pleasure. And we were chosen to be guest of the day, which comes with a lot of perks.
