DO NOT TRUST THE PHOTOS. Guest Safety is not a priority, i was able to bypass the "lock" with a credit card in 5 seconds. There are no secondary locks. I booked my stay with my family of 3. I was surprised at the lack of decor in the room. It almost looked like it was ransacked. The "suite" includes a bedroom with no doors so if you we're expecting any privacy, forget it. When i. Complained they said the pictures make it clear there is no door, it could have been a pocket door or something, but evidently I'm an idiot because i expected the suite to have doors on the bedroom. The couch wasn't a pull out so my daughter had to sleep on the regular couch and not a bed. Service was less than good. Parking is messy and pricey. Location was the only selling point of this hotel, and perhaps the balcony which was nice. Consider what you hoped for and than prepare for a reality check when you arrive. I would recommend staying somewhere else, I know I will next time.

This is a self-service hotel, which means there are no staff on-site to assist you. The road leading to the property is steep and narrow, and the entrance is hard to spot. After a long day of travel, we arrived exhausted, only to realize we couldn’t even get into the building.

We had just returned from a cruise with no internet access, so we didn’t know that we needed to register online in advance to receive the building and room access codes. We had to call the number listed on the website and sit in our car for over 30 minutes to complete the registration process ourselves. There was no one to assist. Parking is also self-service and costs $40 per night.

The room itself did not feel like a hotel—it was more like a basic vacation rental. There was a stove but no pots, pans, or kettle. The smell inside the room was overwhelming—strong disinfectant mixed with something unpleasant. It was so intense that we started coughing as soon as we walked in.

Cleanliness was also a major concern. The walls were cracked, the tile grout was black, and overall the room felt poorly maintained. I don’t have allergies, but I was itching all over and couldn’t sleep. The next morning, we found a bloodstain on one of the pillows, which was absolutely unacceptable.

Although the hotel is close to Hollywood Boulevard, it’s not walkable. You still need to drive to get anywhere, and food delivery drivers had a hard time locating the building.

Overall, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. I would not stay here again or recommend it to others.

I'm giving this place 5 stars based on the context of what the place actually is and what my expectations were after reading other reviews. I really enjoyed my stay here. We stayed in room 107. The website is a little misleading on what the place actually looks like and the condition of the rooms. The bed was super comfortable and we had a great view of Hollywood from the room and balcony. The room was huge was pretty clean but it could have been a little cleaner with paying attention to detail. The room looks like nice but also looks like it's ready for a remodel with some wear and tear on everything. The parking is limited and can be a little tight. It's a great location if you want to spend time in Hollywood. We spent most of our time in downtown LA and it was about 25 mins from that. I'd stay here again. If the view is important to you, make sure you get one of the rooms that has a view like 107 did. If you're not expecting perfection you'll enjoy it here. I'd stay here again though.

Terrible Experience at Hollywood Hills Hotel – Complete Disappointment

I booked the Hollywood Hills Hotel for a 4-day birthday getaway, hoping for a peaceful, cozy retreat atop the hills with stunning views and a great restaurant nearby. The photos online were perfect, and for $800, I was expecting a truly special stay. Sadly, this couldn’t have been further from the reality.

Let me start by saying that the staff who assisted me with check-in and room changes were incredibly kind, patient, and professional. They tried their best to help and were the only redeeming part of this entire experience.

Now, onto the reality of the hotel itself. Finding the property and the room after dark was a nightmare. The signage was poor, the layout confusing, and the room I finally reached was nothing like the photos. I had booked the most expensive available room, and yet what I walked into was shocking. The room was outdated, poorly maintained, and had a musty smell that hit me the moment I stepped inside. I was horrified.

Unable to stay in that room, I asked the manager for another option. He was understanding and quickly offered me a new room. However, the second room was no better—just as disappointing and nowhere near the standard promised in the photos. At this point, my birthday trip was turning into a disaster.

I explained to the manager that the rooms did not match the advertised images and were unacceptable. To his credit, he was extremely polite and promised to do everything he could to assist with a refund, even though this decision wasn’t entirely in his hands.

To make matters worse, this all happened on January 8th, the night a massive hurricane hit Los Angeles, bringing unprecedented destruction, power outages, and even a wildfire. At 9 PM, during one of the worst storms in the city’s history, I was forced to find another hotel. With many areas experiencing blackouts and most hotels fully booked with locals seeking refuge, it was a stressful and chaotic situation.

Thankfully, Booking.com’s customer service came to the rescue. They were empathetic, kind, and went above and beyond to help me secure a full refund and find alternative accommodations. I am deeply grateful to them for salvaging what could have been a completely ruined trip.

While I appreciate the efforts of the staff at Hollywood Hills Hotel, the property itself was a massive disappointment. The rooms were far below expectations, and the experience left me scrambling for a new place to stay during a crisis.

I strongly advise anyone considering this hotel to think twice. The photos are misleading, and the rooms are nothing like what’s advertised. If you do decide to book, be prepared for disappointment and keep a backup plan in mind—especially if it’s your birthday or any other special occasion.

Do not stay here! Hotel is in sketchy neighborhood, next to what looks like an abandoned hotel with homeless encampment. As mentioned there is not front desk or anyone you can physically speak to. Everything is virtual and outsourced even the help desk. I had trouble figuring out how to get into the hotel, and when calling, the only thing he said is he would send the map. I could've looked at google maps myself! STAY AWAY!

Check-in took 45 minutes, and the valet parking for the restaurant above informed me that this is an ongoing issue. After repeatedly following the instructions, including taking a selfie and uploading images of my driver's license and credit card, I discovered that I was unable to access my room information because it had not been sent to me. ||If you are making a reservation, I recommend requesting not to be assigned room 301. Access to this room requires climbing a steep staircase with 36 steps, and it is located above the housekeeping facilities. ||Upon entering the room, it did not match the images shown on the website. Additionally, the bathtub’s paint was peeling, the toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall, and the floor around that area was not clean. Later in the evening, trying to sleep was impossible due to a constant noise from electrical equipment vibrating throughout the room.||This was, needless to say, an awful experience. I called the concierge, who was very polite and helpful, but four days later, after being told they would reach out to management, I have yet to receive any follow-up. To make matters worse, they added an additional parking fee of $35 per day.

loved this hotel and will definitely be back! i truly don't think there was a better hotel with this view since it's the only one on a hill and with a balcony. very quiet, comfortable, and nice looking room. staff brought most things we asked, but missed some things. the room did have a smell probably from the old furniture and some stains on the rug but was pretty clean overall. parking lot is on a hill that you do have to walk on to get to your room. the minor inconveniences weren't a big deal.

View was good but could've been great if I was on a higher floor. Room and balcony were cool but furniture was beat up and stained. Bed was very comfortable. Got stalked by a huge coyote on my last day walking to my uber. Negative star for the pool being closed in 115 degree weather.
