We loved it. This is a very rustic cabin that sits amid a small cluster of vacation cabins just a stone's throw from the California Hot Springs Resort where you can soak in the hot water for very reasonable admission price. The cabin has a small full kitchen, LR, dining area, one bath, and two bedrooms one of which is bunk beds. Nice deck out back. The nearby Resort serves breakfast and lunch but closes in early afternoon, and other nearby restaurants are not to be had, so bring groceries. It 's about two notches up from camping, basically. Very beautiful area. A deep gorge and musical stream bed right out back, crystal clear dark skies at night, no cell service or internet, a closet full of good old board games, and convenient to the giant sequoias about 15 miles up the mountain. Chuck leaves very detailed and explicit instructions everywhere which I suppose puts some people off, but he's just trying to watch out for his place and it cant be easy or economical for him to get up there and fix things all the time. My 20-something sons were aghast when we first arrived but ended up enjoying it immensely. It reminded my wife and I of rustic family vacation rentals in the 60's.

I would not recommend this place. You may be better served staying somewhere near Three Rivers. My husband and I drove up for a peaceful weekend in early November, however arriving after dark with no types of street lights prevented us from finding the cabin. Highlights of the cabin include: a nonworking heating system (brrr on those cold nights that easily reach the 30s in the fall); dated decorations and furniture; a detailed notebook on how to leave the cabin EXACTLY how you found it including, no joke, putting rugs and carpets in their correct position based on dots drawn on the floor; and being charged $20 for not cleaning up after ourselves (something that was not expressed in the terms of agreement). I can see now why this place had so few reviews, but call me old fashioned, I thought that would be a good thing. It did have however, nice piping hot water, a beautiful creek in the back (which you can't get to from the house) lulling you to sleep, and amazing stars to look up at.

Great cabin, but he managed to keep ALL of my deposit after we thoroughly cleaned the cabin!! I will NEVER rent this cabin again, which is a shame because it is an amazing place but shister owners, hey who knows maybe this year is better since all the covid money came out, but I won't take the chance and neither will any of my friends or family. Great disappointment

We actually were looking for a cabin to buy with the same natural hot mineral spring water running into the cabin that feeds CA Hot Springs Resort because though I do not consider their natural hot springs water healing - it is "feel good" water. My husband and I go to Hot Springs all over the world and soak in a jacuzzi at home twice a day so it ISN'T just the hot water - there are minerals or something in this water that relaxes your muscles and skin so that when you get out your skin feels like a million dollars and you are SO relaxed. ANYWAY, this cabin is in what the locals call or called (since it is politically incorrect to say now days) "Jap Hollow". Apparently the Japanese people are very taken with natural hot springs (like we are) and owned or rented all the little cabins that line both sides of the tiny street that dead ends near this particular cabin. The owner lives a distance away so that is why he REALLY wants the cabin left as clean and ready for the next renter (as possible). Because of the close vicinity of all the cabins to each other - my husband wanted NOTHING to do with purchasing the cabin in the group that was for sale. The cabin we rented had everything you needed for your stay. (puzzles, games, linen, towels, paper towels, plastic bags, dishes, silverware, salt, pepper, etc) The rustic, old feel was not a turn off for us but being in our 70's and 80's we would vote for better beds. Our kids and grandchild had NO issue with the beds so it was just us. I remember reading that he had renovated the cabins since we stayed so the beds may all be new It was surprising to find out that only REALLY HOT water ran into the cabin. : ) There is no COLD water to mix so you have to run your dish water or bathe water and let it sit till you can put your hand into it. Again, not a negative - just a surprise. You can walk to the Resort from the cabin and the owner owns 2 of the cabins in case you have a group. The resort has one of the best gift shops I've ever seen, FANTASTIC ice cream (for root beer floats) : ) and their food is very good. Ron and Mary own the resort and Mary is often behind the counter working as is Ron - taking care of the property and Water Company (that feeds the little cabin we rented). After looking at everything for sale in the area, we DID find and purchase 10 acres up the mountain from the resort with our own natural hot springs (3 hot and 2 cold springs) and year round BEAUTIFUL Deer Creek running thru the middle of it. It has been 10 years since we purchased those 10 acres and hope to build our home there this summer. Even though the elevation is only 3,800ft or less at the cabin - that area FEELS much colder in the winter than you might anticipate - as the trees are mostly Sycamore, Buckeye, Oak, Box Elder, with a couple cedar, pine and Sequoia tucked in the higher elevations. If you drive 3 miles up the road you will come to Pine Flats where the foothill trees are gone and the conifers take over. Trail of the 100 Giants (Sequoia) is just a 15-20 min. drive up the mountain - where you take a hairpin left turn before turning towards Pine Flats. It should be noted that the Rabbit Inn has become a private residence so no longer a hotel/restaurant in Pine Flats but there is a great little grocery store, coffee bar, restaurant in Pine Flat. The ONLY other cabin rental available in the area (that I am aware of), can be found by stopping in at the resort and they have a flyer advertising it.
