This was hardly my first time at SRL - I've been going there for 40 years. This time I was there for a week and a half in mid December, a time which is very quiet and rarely more than another car or two of guests on the property. When I'm solo I stay in a casita room but have spent many stays with family / kids in the cabins. I go to the Santa Ritas to hike, so I'm out by the time the tourists come up canyon and they have left by the time I return, though I do enjoy chatting with a few other die hard birders. It is amazingly quiet at night and if you drive down to the Proctor parking lot, the night sky is stunning. The rooms are no frills but suit my needs well. You will have a two burner hotplate, small frying pan and pot, coffee maker, microwave, mini-fridge with a larger than usual freezer for such. I store my salad veggies in my car overnight to keep them cool. Simple meals are a must, but with careful planning I can avoid trips to town for food. The new Wifi was great, quite an improvement!||The office is open only 10-4. They have coffee, pastries, and souvenirs. If you need something and are not around, let them know and they will supply it.||There are sometimes meditation retreats on weekends. I do not know how they impact operations / parking as I'm not around during the day. No problem if you arrive late as your room will be open.||There are many many places to hike in the Santa Ritas, not just Madera Canyon, but if you're there only a few days, the local trails will keep you busy and avoid much driving.||One should note their new cancellation policies, which are similar to the stringent airbnb policies which seem to have mostly died off. If you are staying multiple days and can't make it, this could be a big hit. And you're paying in advance, so don't be surprised to see the credit card charge show up.

This lodge was rustic and adorable. It had all the necessities. The views were incredible on the hikes. Saw so many animals and birds. Can't wait to explore Madera canyon more and go back for hiking/mountain biking. I was shocked there were so many springs and the water was still flowing with this drought.

We stayed in one of the casitas and it was perfect for us. It is rustic with a comfortable bed and pillows. There is a kitchenette with microwave, refrigerator, sink, and coffee maker. There was a patio next to our casita - perfect for a glass of wine as the sun was going down. The owners reached out before we arrived to see if we had any particular needs - nice! No food is available for purchase in Madera Canyon so we picked up pizza and a salad in Green Valley at Tow Girls Pizzeria I recommend it! The best part was being in beautiful Madera Canyon and near the feeders with hummingbirds, as well as a lot of other birds, including a large group of turkeys.

This is one of my favorite places in Arizona. I've stayed here dozens of times and have never been disappointed. The rooms aren't fancy but they are clean and comfortable. Many have been updated. The birding, wildlife and hiking you can do from this place is fantastic. There are easy hikes nearby and down canyon from the lodge and more strenuous hikes as you head up the canyon. If you aren't up for hiking, just sitting at the bird feeder area is a great way to spend some time. During migration seasons the numbers of hummingbirds is wonderful to watch.

Madera Canyon is gorgeous and this B&B is located in a terrific spot for hiking and birding. The bird feeder station is a must-see: hummingbirds whiz by your head, quail scoot by, and bridled titmice scamper over the feeders. Steve was super friendly and talked to us about birds and wildlife when we asked. The stand-alone casa was roomy, with a functional kitchen. Next time, I'll buy even more groceries before checking in, because eating anywhere else (especially if you eat a plant-based diet) is nearly impossible for many miles in all directions. The cabin was dark--the lighting situation could use an upgrade, especially in the living areas. Other than that, nothing but a great stay here and we'll be back!

Great basic room. Kitchen had the basic necessities and there was a grill but no charcoal so we had to drive back 11 miles to Safeway(which isn't that bad, except for the time away from this lovely place!). The hummingbirds are there in profusion especially in the morning and evening, but midday brings a resurgence of them. Got some decent photos of the hard to capture Rivoli's, with color showing.||Heard the whiskered screech owl and Mexican whip poor will in the wright parking lot of Madera canyon after dinner. Walked parts of the canyon several times - great ease of access.

Saw some great birds here Rivoli Hummingbird, Hepatic Tanager, Red-naped Sapsucker, Arizona Woodpecker, etc. Parking is a problem unless you get there early before the gift shop opens.

Hands down one of the best spots to go birding! There's also tea and many cute gifts here. Thank you so much to the people to maintain the area!
