My daughter had their Original chicken sandwich, BIG, light crispy breading. The large order of fries more than enough for 2, glad I don't get the basket, perfectly prepared. Will be back."

First time over at 1st place Cafe and WOW is all I can say. Incredibly welcoming, super friendly and informative, and the food…… if your eyes eat first then you’ll be full off of looks alone! But the flavors when you actually take a bite are immaculate. We were advised when ordering that the portions were large; and boy were they, i’m even more exciting to eat my leftovers later! This may have been our first time eating here but it certainly wasn’t our last! Already making plans with friends to come back. Location is fairly small but I must say I enjoyed that. I’d come back just to chitchat with the owner; the delicious food is just an unbeatable bonus!

This is the absolute best spot in the Charleston area. When you watch chefs go to restaurants on the Food Network etc and they immediately say the menu is too big and nothing is fresh,, well 1st Place Cafe is one place Gordon Ramsey wouldn’t change a thing. Lee is the only one in the kitchen making your food. She makes her own sauces, pickles, slaw, relish, chili, fries, and everything else on the menu. The menu is small and everything on it is outstanding! I’ve literally sent an email to Diners, Dives, and Drive ins several times recommending Lee’s 1st Place Cafe. My Grandma RIP made chicken legs for me every Sunday my whole childhood. Nothing I’ve tried anywhere has ever come close to the memory of her Sunday night chicken legs until I found Lee. The mountain of peanut oil cooked French fries with Lee’s Cajun seasoning are the best French fries on the planet, forget about 5 Guys. I could go on and on but get your a$s over there and try everything. It’s made to order so don’t be rude or in a rush. This is what a restaurant should be.

Over the past few months my friend and I have read the excellent reviews and seen the pictures of the food at 1st Place Cafe. We decided to try it out today for lunch and we weren't disappointed. Everything is FRESH & MADE TO ORDER.
All of the sauces are made from scratch in house and are amazing. They will allow you to try a little before you order if you are unsure, I loved that! The blue cheese dressing is the best I have found in the Charleston area.
If you enjoy lemonade, make sure to try theirs, like everything else it is made from scratch not from the fountain or a can.
Sandwiches come with or without fries. If you are dining with someone, chances are only one of you will need to order your meal with fries. There were two of us and we still didn't finish them. In addition, the sandwiches are HUGE and well worth the cost. Both of us took half of our sandwich home.

I ordered the Nashville Chicken and my friend ordered a cheeseburger. Both were delicious 😋

***SIDE NOTE*** Be sure to try the pickles which are available to purchase by the jar!

Give them a try & ENJOY!!!

Stopped by on our way to Michigan for dinner. Very friendly place. Ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich, classic cheeseburger, and a side of fries. Portions were gigantic and delicious! The fries were thin, crispy, and seasoned just right. Glad we stopped there - I guess the name says it all 🙂

Stopped here with the family on the way back home to Virginia. Let me tell you, they might have the best chicken tenders I ever had in my life. All their sauces are made in-house. The portion sizes are incredible. I got the burger and that thing tasted great and had me full all day. The staff is extremely down to Earth and hospitable. You get a sense of bang for your buck here that you really don’t get anywhere else nowadays. Thank you guys and I will definitely be back if I’m ever around that way again!

Food definitely did not live up to the hype and the service had me leaving feeling completely embarrassed. Large portions but my fries were soggy and the chicken was fairly tough. Sandwich as a whole was just super sloppy.
Food aside, the front counter lady has made it so I'll never leave change again when I pay cash. Order was $17 I gave a 20 and just said I don't need the change, like a small change jar donation even though its a fast food and I was taking it to go. As soon as she said thanks she asked if I needed anything besides ketchup and I said ranch would be good. She then asks for 1 50 more. It's weird to charge for condiments but it was really weird not to just take it from the $3 I just left in their cash drawer. It made things very uncomfortable when I mentioned that. Then she got upset and literally forced the remaining change into my hand after I repeatedly said I didn't want it. Even if the food was steller I will absolutely never be back. I've never had someone make it weird about leaving change so I'll just avoid that in the future.

Terrific food made to order. Decent service. Great amount of food for the price. Late Thursday lunch. Orders take longer than similar restaurants, but the made to order food is great.

Ordered the American Classic Steak Cheeseburger, Original Chicken Sandwich, Nashville Blue, and the Reuben for entrees.

American Classic Steak Cheeseburger- tasty fresh toppings on a great burger.

Original Chicken Sandwich - huge sandwich topped with fresh toppings. Great taste, very satisfying.

Nashville Blue - similar to the original chicken sandwich, but with more tang. The toppings really make this sandwich truly tasty, particularly if you like bleu cheese and spiciness.

Reuben - misses the mark, the roast beef and bread are perfect; but the sauerkraut and dressing could use some improvement. The sauerkraut didn’t really come through and the dressing was too messy/thin/watery. Still a sandwich worth getting, just non-ideal in my opinion.

Fries - so good and plentiful they’re worth addressing separately. It was hard to stop eating the fries, particularly when dunking them in the sauces (extra charge for the extra product). We had two adults and two kids when we ate here, two orders of fries coupled with the four sandwiches we ordered completely filled us up and left us with snacks for later. The fries were surprisingly good cold when we ate them later that day.

Minor gripes - food is ordered at the counter, take out and dine in. On the plus side, staff let us know this as we entered. Pre-pay (and for those that use credit/debit cards, tip) is before you’ve enjoyed or didn’t enjoy the meal. Personally not a fan of this as waitstaff rely on tips and walking up to a counter, ordering and paying before you eat forces the customer to guess as to how great the meal and service is going to be.
